NEWS
--At 11:26pm Sunday the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a robbery in progress at Tiny’s Tavern located in Lastrup. According to the Sheriff’s Office, two male suspects entered Tiny’s Tavern wearing dark colored bandanas over their faces, went behind the bar and took a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash. The two suspects were described as young males, approximately 5’4” to 5’7” tall, thin build and were wearing dark clothing. The suspects fled the bar and were picked up by a third suspect who was driving a small dark colored SUV, with an unknown make or model. The vehicle did have a luggage rack on top and damage to the windshield. If you have information regarding this case, you are asked to call the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office at (320) 632-9233.

--Due to the Pierz Boys Basketball game on Wednesday night the scheduled Community Open House and Showcase Night will now be Tuesday, March 17th at the Pierz Healy High School. This will include a community health fair, social media dangers presentation, empty bowls fundraiser ($10 for a bowl of soup, keep the handmade bowl) where the proceeds go to the food shelf and the Pioneer packs program. Again due to tomorrow's boys game the date has been changed to March 17th from 4-7pm at Pierz Healy High School. Those attending next week are asked to use Healy door #2.

--Officials in Cass County say an armed man was fatally shot by a deputy and another man was found dead inside a residence Sunday afternoon. According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 1:38pm to report of an intruder at a residence in Backus. The caller reported that a shot had been fired. Deputies responded and encountered an armed man on a residential street. The man approached deputies with a firearm before being fatally shot by a deputy. A man was also found deceased inside the residence. Autopsies are scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities say there is no threat to public safety at this time. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave and their identifies will be released after initial interviews are completed.

--The BCA has released the names of the three officers involved in the death of a tased St. Cloud man. The BCA announced Friday that St. Cloud Police officers Brandon Leuthardt, Jessica Schlieman, and Zachary Scholl were involved in the incident and have been placed on standard administrative leave. 41-year old David Beckes died Wednesday after being tased by police officers responding to a 911 call of a reported assault in progress. Authorities say when officers arrived they did not receive a response at the door and forced entry into the apartment.

--A St. Cloud man was hurt in a crash near Foley Sunday morning. The incident happened on Highway 23 west of Foley shortly after 5am. The Minnesota State Patrol says a car was going east on Highway 23 when it lost control, rolled across the westbound lanes, and came to a stop on its side in the ditch. The driver of the car, 36-year-old Robert Leabch, was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

--A 34-year old from Hewitt was injured in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday in Todd County. Karis South was on Highway 71 in Hewitt when the vehicle veered off the road and struck an enbankment causing the vehicle to go airborne and strike the snowmobile trail. South was treated at the Wadena hospital.

--A coffee with a cop event will be tomorrow at 9am at the Randall Cafe. Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen stated Monday that he has received questions on what some the drugs look like from their opioid awareness and he will be bring displays to show you what to look for. Free coffee and information on Wednesday in Randall.

--The Waite Park Police Department is asking for your help finding a missing man. Officers are asking you to be on the lookout for 40-year-old Jordan Gumiela. He is white, 5'11", and approximately 200 lbs. Gumiela has blue eyes and brown hair and may be driving a white Chevy Impala with license number 575 WHT. Police believe he may be in danger. If you see Gumiela or know his whereabouts, call the Waite Park Police Department at (320) 251-3281 and ask to speak to an on-duty officer.

--The Crow Wing County Dairy Princess and Ambassador contest will be held on Saturday with dinner at 7:00pm and coronation at 8:00pm at the Pierz Ballrooom. A Senior Dairy Princess Candidate is Arica Caughey of Brainerd, Junior Dairy Princess Candidates are Jenna Caughey of Brainerd, Kaylee Woitalla whose family farms south of Brainerd and she attends Pierz High School. Dairy Ambassador Contestants are Allison Struffert of Brainerd, Erica Rudolph of Pierz (Harding area), Alexis “Ali” Schroer of Brainerd and Allison Woitalla of Brainerd. The Morrison County Dairy Princess Coronation and Banquet will be the following the Saturday on March 21st at the Falls Ballroom in Little Falls.

--The Pierz Healy High School Drama students will present “And Then There Were None,” Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and a dinner theater performance Sunday, March 15 at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for the regular performances are $6 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets for the dinner theatre are $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 and under. “And Then There Were None” is a well known novel written by Agatha Christie. Set in the late 1930’s, ten strangers are brought to a small island. They all have one thing in common, and that is their sordid pasts. Each one of them has been marked a murderer. As a storm holds them captive on the island, one by one they are murdered. Who is the killer? Come to Pierz this week and find out.

--The Kinship of Morrison County Fish Fry this past Friday in Little Falls was well attended. Kinship of Morrison County wanted to extend a huge thank you to all of the Kinship volunteers, the Kiwanis club members and spouses and the additional volunteers from the community who helped make it a big night. 368 guests were served which was close to over 100 more from last year.
