NEWS
--A woman from Hillman and a man from Sauk Rapids were arrested last weekend on drug charges. On Saturday authorities executed two search warrants. One search was conducted at the AmericInn Hotel in Baxter and the other at the Breezy Point Resort. During the search warrants officers seized a total of ¼ pound of suspected methamphetamine, $6,500 cash and a handgun along with drug packaging material. 29-year old Ashley Garmaker of Hillman and 29-year old Timothy Rootes of Sauk Rapids were arrested and taken to Crow Wing County jail where they were booked on charges of 1st degree sale and possession of methamphetamine along with a felon in possession of a firearm.

--The Little Falls Fire Department responded to a tractor fire on Saturday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the address of 13652 100th Avenue around 1:45pm Saturday. Firefighters were on scene for about 45-60 minutes. There were no injuries and the cause was undetermined.

--An Iowa man pleaded guilty Friday to stabbing his friend to death while they were in St. Cloud, according to court records. 22-year old Robin Russell Hanson of Deloit, Iowa, was charged with second degree murder in September. Hanson was accused of stabbing 22-year old Andre Reaves in the chest with a knife. The incident happened at approximately 6:35am September 5th in the 1600 block of Oak Grove Road Southwest in St. Cloud. The two men had traveled together to St. Cloud and arrived September 1st. Reaves was also from Deloit, Iowa. Hanson is scheduled to be sentenced August 23rd.

--A Kimball woman was injured Friday in an accident on Highway 15 south of St. Cloud. 51-year old Sandy Kelly was injured when her pickup rear-ended a car who made a sharp left turn in front of her. The other driver, 56-year old James Robinson of Kimball was not hurt. Kelly was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

--Fire destroyed a Deerwood home Wednesday afternoon. Just before 5pm, a Deerwood man was sleeping and woken by a neighbor. The fire destroyed the home on the 21000 block of Peterson Creek Drive. The home is owned by Edwin and Janice Anderson. The neighbor and the sleeping man were able to escape without injury.

--Authorities have released the name of the man killed in a crash involving a tractor Saturday night near Litchfield. The man has been identified as 62-year old Kevin Erickson of Darwin. The Minnesota State Patrol says at about 10:30pm. Erickson was heading north on Highway 15 when he collided with the rear side of a planter being pulled by a tractor. The tractor had just pulled out from a field approach to head north on Highway 15. Erickson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor, 56-year-old Peter Peterson of Dassel, was not hurt.

--Possible human remains have been found in New York Mills, near Wadena. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s office says someone walking in the woods saw what appeared to be bones. The remains were found near a wooded area by the railroad tracks. The Sheriff’s Office says there haven’t been any recent missing people reported in the area. The last person to go missing was a disabled woman in the late 1980s. Autopsy and DNA results on the bones are pending.

--Oasis Share Meal will be canceled this week on Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls. It will return on Thursday, May 31st.

--The Minnesota Legislature adjourned late Sunday night. A bonding proposal was passed along with a pensions bill to stabilize benefits for thousands of Minnesotans. Other important measures including a tax bill and supplemental budget appear to be headed for a veto from Governor Dayton over the next two weeks. Governor Dayton stated if there was no compromise he would not order a special session.

--The Benton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who was driving a stolen car while in possession of controlled substances just after midnight Saturday in Minden Township. The deputy stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, 28-year old Tyler Kirby Wiehoff of Sauk Rapids, and an adult female passenger. Wiehoff told the deputy that he did not have his driver’s license with him and initially gave the name of his brother as his own when asked for his identity. Wiehoff eventually confirmed his true identity. It was discovered that Wiehoff had 4 outstanding arrests warrants and a revoked driver’s license. As the officers continued their investigation they noticed the ignition switch and steering column for the vehicle Wiehoff had been driving was damaged, allowing the vehicle to be started without a key. It was later found that the vehicle was stolen. Wiehoff was arrested on his outstanding warrants and for possession of the stolen motor vehicle. At the Benton County Jail, a search of Wiehoff’s clothing revealed that he was in possession of 2 pills which the markings lead deputies to believe that they contained Oxycodone. Wiehoff was booked on charges of Driving After Revocation, 5th Degree Controlled Substance Crime, Giving a Peace Officer a False Name, and Possession of Stolen Property.

--A 42-year old man and his 4-year old son are dead after a kayaking accident on a lake southeast of Bemidji Saturday. The Hubbard County Sheriff's Department says Jesse Anderson of Northwood Iowa and his son were on Hart Lake when the kayak tipped on May 19th. A witness told authorities no one came to surface after the boat flipped. Multiple agencies conducted an extensive search of the water and located the child, who was rushed to a hospital in Minneapolis. On Sunday, authorities found Jesse Anderson's body in 6 feet of water. Hours later his son died in the hospital. Authorities say neither victim was wearing their life jacket.
