NEWS
--Two people, one from Glenwood and one from Marshall, died in a two-vehicle crash near Osakis early Sunday morning. The sheriff’s office reports 24-year-old Scott Johnson of Glenwood failed to stop at a stop sign and his car was hit by an oncoming pickup. Johnson and his passenger, 21-year-old Zoe Tostenson of Marshall, died at the scene. The driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Dylan Klukken of Osakis, was treated and released. The fatal crash happened around 5:30 Sunday morning at the intersection of County Road 3 and Hope Road near Osakis. The crash remains under investigation.

--A woman from Big Lake was hurt in a crash on Highway 10 near Randall in Morrison County. The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened at about 3pm Monday. A car driven by 72-year-old Beverly Anderson of Big Lake was going east on Highway 10 when troopers say she turned to go east on Highway 115 in front of a pickup. The pickup was driven by 53-year-old David Gould of Browerville. Anderson was taken to the hospital in Little Falls with non-life-threatening injuries. Gould was not hurt.

--36-year-old Travis Luke Magney of Royalton, was charged in Morrison County District Court with two felony counts of check forgery. The charges stem from two different incidents, which occurred about two weeks apart. According to the criminal complaint, on March 31, the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a check forgery that occurred at Hines Motorsports near Camp Ripley. A deputy responded to the complaint and spoke with the owner, who told law enforcement he was contacted over Facebook Messenger. The owner was selling a motorcycle for $6,000, and a man claiming to be “Chase Hausfeld,” reached out to him about his interest in purchasing the motorcycle.He arrived at the victim’s business and allegedly purchased the motorcycle using a certified check for the amount of $6,000. The owner told law enforcement that he noticed the check appeared to be fake the following day. He contacted the bank to ensure that was the case. Later, the victim posted on Facebook with information and photos in an attempt to locate the person claiming to be Hausfeld. The victim told law enforcement that he “received multiple messages” stating the person’s real name was Travis Magney, the criminal complaint said. He also learned the motorcycle was parked in Sartell. The owner drove to the given address and recovered the motorcycle. According to the criminal complaint, on April 12, the Little Falls Police Department received a report of a check forgery incident that occurred within the city. The victim told law enforcement that she and her son had sold a vehicle to the individual, who claimed his name was “Scott.” The sale occurred at their residence in Little Falls. The victim stated the man claiming to be “Scott” — later identified as Magney — gave them a cashier’s check for $3,800 and a set of wheels in exchange for the vehicle. When they brought the cashier’s check to the bank, they were told it was fake. Magney, if convicted, faces up to 10 years imprisonment and/or $20,000 in fines for each count.

--The Minnesota State Patrol was called at 12:20am Sunday to a crash where a SUV was traveling east on Highway 2 east of Hill City and northwest of Floodwood in Aitkin County. 18-year-old Kelsey Olson of Grand Rapids was driving the vehicle when it crossed over the center line and into the oncoming traffic lane before running off road to the left. It then went down into the ditch, colliding with a tree and entering a marsh, flipping at least once. Olson was transported to a Grand Rapids hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

--The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says one of its conservation officers died in a two-vehicle crash near Grand Rapids while on duty Monday morning. The Minnesota DNR has identified her as officer 39-year-old Sarah Grell. She was stationed in Grand Rapids and leaves behind a husband and three children. She served as a conservation officer since 2005 and had a deeply held dedication to serving Minnesota’s people and natural resources. The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash and has not released details.

--A woman with an Apple Valley address was picked up on an arrest warrant after an incident where she is accused of attacking a man with a knife in Waite Park. 25-year-old Tinika Crockett is charged with 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and 5th-degree assault causing fear of bodily harm or death. Police were called to an apartment complex back on May 9th for a knife complaint. Officers learned a man had gone to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of a knife wound. The man told police that he and another woman arrived at the apartment building and saw Crockett at the top of the stairs holding a knife. The man told the woman who was with him to run. Crockett allegedly caught up with the victims and grabbed the woman's sweatshirt hood while holding the knife. The man said he pushed Crockett away which allowed the woman to escape to their car. As the man turned to run, Crockett allegedly swung the knife and cut the man's leg. She then fled the scene on foot. Court records show the man and Crockett are family or household members.

--A 62-year-old Pequot Lakes woman faces charges after breaking into a residence and assaulting a couple she knew. Taffie Lynn Goerges was charged May 17 in Crow Wing County District Court with two felony counts of first-degree burglary where she entered a residence without consent and assaulted the occupants and three misdemeanors of domestic assault, fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct. The charges stem from a domestic incident back on May 14th on River Road. Goerges was released on her own recognizance and must follow conditions of her release.

WRE= Little Falls Community High School announced that Simon Waltman will be their new boys wrestling coach next season replacing longtime wrestling coach Mike Hendrickson who retired.
