NEWS
--The Little Falls Community High School Senior Activities Award Banquet was held Monday night. Award winners included- Female Athlete of the Year Katherine Corbett and Male Athlete of the Year Grant Litke; Fine Arts Students of the Year Emily Witucki and Jacob Korver; US Marines Distinguished Athlete of the Year Marre Welinski and Lucas Rekstad; US Marines Scholastic Excellence Award Allie Steinmetz and Thomas Kunkel; Vern and Bunny Zehren Award Abby Poser and Ben Peterson; John Phillip Sousa Award Jacob Korver; Louis Armstrong Award Oscar Norgren; Semper Fidelis Musical Excellence Award Ben Peterson and Elisabeth Novotny; National School Choral Award Corinna Brose and William Riitters; Fred Waring Director Award Zachary Miklos; Flyer Swimming Memorial Award Caitlin Gustafson; MSHSL AAA Award Katherine Corbett and Thomas Kula; MSHSL ExCEL Award to Juniors Cormac Shanoff and Camilla Johnson; and there were seven recipients of three sport athlete awards. Congratulations to all students honored.

--Three area high school juniors will travel to Washington, D.C., in June with approximately 1,900 other students from around the nation after winning a Crow Wing Power contest. Area winners are Keenan Hodge, son of Dalen and Lori Hodge of Baxter; Anna Streed, daughter of Scott and Shelly Streed of Pillager and Stella Canales of Backus. Students from Morrison, Crow Wing and Cass counties entered the contest by writing a fictitious letter to any political leader focusing on a topic important to them.

--This week is National Correctional Officers’ week. Correctional Officers have a tough job and deserve more praise then what they get. Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen stated that “we are thankful for our staff at Morrison County and Correctional Officers Nationwide”. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, creating "National Correctional Officers' Week." Each year, the first full week in May is recognized as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, commemorating the contributions of correctional officers and personnel who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections across the country. On a daily basis, correctional officers across the country face dangerous situations that challenge their safety. Thank you to all of the great Corrections employees serving this great state and nation!

--St. Cloud Fire Department retrieved a kayak from the Mississippi River just after noon Sunday following reports that two people overturned their kayaks. Both people were accounted about 30 minutes later. The two people kayaking tipped over in the rapids south of the Sauk Rapids bridge. First responders searched for one person thought to be missing, but both kayakers were accounted for and crews were called off after noon on Sunday.

--A vacant house in Waite Park caught on fire early Sunday morning. The fire started shortly before 3:30am at a home at 140 10th Avenue North. Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud says nobody was living in the home and nobody was hurt in the fire. Damage to the house is extensive, but the flames did not spread to any nearby buildings. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. If you have any information, you are asked to contact the Waite Park Police Department or the Tri-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-255-1301.

--Pierz Superintendent George Weber will discuss the construction this summer at Pierz schools today at 8:45am on AM960 KLTF.

--On Wednesday, May 8th, Little Falls Community High School students and staff will hold its Ninth Annual Day of Caring. The students, staff, and community members (over 1,000 volunteers) will provide over 3,000 hours of outdoor, spring clean-up service to seniors, disabled and homebound individuals within the cities of Little Falls and Randall, as well as the villages of Sobieski and Flensburg. More than 200 individual homeowners have signed up for assistance. In addition, the students will provide assistance with clean-up at city parks and community areas. The public is reminded to drive cautiously on Wednesday morning in these areas between 8:30am and Noon. Teams of student and adult volunteers will be walking between work locations and crossing streets carrying rakes and other clean-up equipment. The event will be held rain or shine unless there is very severe weather. Please listen to Little Falls radio for any weather-related announcements that would affect the Day of Caring.

--Morrison County would like to remind farmers that planting crops within road right of way is illegal. State law prohibits plowing, tilling and/or planting in the right of way. They want to prevent any situation where crops block motorists’ vision, create erosion concerns or other safety issues. Crews will be out sweeping streets and intersections on various roads around Morrison county. Maintenance workers will continue patching potholes and also out blading gravel roads this week as weather permits. Maintenance crews will continue crack sealing this week on CSAH 102 in Swanville and County Road 262. Crews will work in one lane, and control traffic with flaggers. Please use caution around work crews.

--Saturday marked a historic moment at the Breezy Point Airport in Breezy Point. Executives of the airfield renamed the airport after longtime airport manager and Vietnam Veteran Cliff Muller. Muller has lived on the field for 20 years and has spent the last two decades caring for and managing the field. A Vietnam veteran from the 1/12th Cavalry of the Army, a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Air Medal recipient. Cliff currently lives on the airport’s edges in a refurbished hangar and spends his time tending to the property while fueling his love for aviation. The airport is now known as Breezy Point Airport Muller Field.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS
--Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, are the proud parents of a new baby boy born early Monday in England. The baby, who has not yet been named, is seventh in line for the British throne and is Queen Elizabeth II's eighth great-grandchild. It is the first child for Harry and Meghan, who married a year ago.
