--The Minnesota State Patrol reported to a number of accidents over the weekend in central Minnesota. Sunday afternoon at 2:54pm, two vehicles collided near Paynesville in Stearns County, both drivers were not hurt, one passenger from Eden Valley had non life threatening injuries. Around 8:15am, two people were hurt in a 1 vehicle accident in Kathio Township of Mille Lacs County. The vehicle attempted to pass another at a high rate of speed went off the road and rolled into the lake. The driver from Coon Rapids had minor injuries treated in Onamia, the passenger from Ham Lake had more serious but non life threatening injuries and was taken to Brainerd hospital then transferred to the Twin Cities. Four people including 3 children were hurt in an accident Sunday around 5:30am in Hubbard County, three people were hurt in an accident Saturday afternoon near Maple Lake in Wright County and three vehicles were involved in a crash Saturday morning near Big Lake in Sherburne County. The State Patrol is reminding motorists to watch speeds and distracted driving that can caused accidents and they will have an uptick in officers and deputies over the weeks ahead with more vehicles, bicycles, boaters and others getting back out for the summer months ahead.

--One Minnesota teacher has been named the recipient of a prestigious award. The 2023 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Banquet was held at the St. Paul RiverCentre on Sunday afternoon. Michael Houston, a mathematics teacher from Harding High School in St. Paul was announced as this year’s winner. Minnesota’s 2022 Teacher of the Year Sarah Lancaster from Onamia introduced each candidate before making the official announcement on Sunday.

--Officials with the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office have released the name of the deputy shot and killed by a suspect near Glenwood, Wisconsin on Saturday night. Deputy Kaitie Leising, 29, was killed when she exchanged gunfire with a possibly impaired driver by the side of the road. The deputy was shot while they were responding to a call and later died at the hospital. Around 6:15pm Saturday, the deputy was sent out on a report of a potential drunk driver in the ditch in Glenwood, Wisconsin. Upon arrival at the scene, Leising encountered the driver of the vehicle in a ditch and another vehicle of people that had stopped to help. Deputy Leising allegedly requested the individual, now identified as 34-year-old Jeremiah Johnson, take field sobriety tests before he returned to his vehicle. According to officials, Johnson was evasive to Leising's requests and after eight minutes of dialogue turned toward the deputy and shot her. After she was shot, Deputy Liesing fired her weapon three times, but none of the bullets hit Johnson as he fled to a nearby wooded area, according to the DCI. The incident was captured on body camera, according to a release.

--The state fire marshal is investigating after a home in St. Cloud caught fire Sunday afternoon. According to the St. Cloud Fire Department, they were called to the 3100 block of Alder Lane just after 4pm. They found the large two-story home partially engulfed in flames. Crews immediately searched the structure and put out the fire. No one was hurt. Fire investigators say many personal items and the home’s contents were saved. Still, the damage is estimated at more than $500,000. The house remains standing but is considered a total loss with “significant” smoke and fire damage throughout.

--Join Little Falls Radio at the Job Fair event on Wednesday at the Exchange Area in Little Falls. The event runs from 9:30am-2:30pm with many items to help find that summer employment for young and old and also hear from many employers seeking those to come work for them. The Job Fair from Rural Minnesota CEP and the Schools will be outside the Exchange Arena while the manufacturers expo of items around the area will be inside the arena. Little Falls Radio will be broadcasting live in the morning hours from the event on all three LF Radio stations Q92 94ROCKS and AM960 and online at fallsradio.com. --The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday at 3:52pm their office received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 10 in the city of Motley. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Tyler Holub of Motley was traveling south on Highway 10 when he suffered a medical emergency. Holub’s vehicle hit a power pole, street sign and eventually a building. Holub was transported to Staples Hospital with unknown injuries.

--The Rice American Legion will host a memorial remembrance for the more than 270 fallen Minnesota law enforcement officers who lost their lives in line of duty. The Legion will honor End of Watch (EOW) for fallen Minnesota Peace Officers. The event will be held Monday, May 15, at 7pm at the Rice Memorial Monument, across from the Creamery Café. The 30-minute program will include representatives from law enforcement agencies: Federal, United States Marshall Eddie M. Frizell, MN State Patrol, MN DNR Conservation Officers, Military Police, Benton County Sheriff and local police. Benton County Police Chaplain Al Jergenson and bagpipers Professor Ben Richason and Joe Nedeau will attend. The public is encouraged to attend to show support for law officers who protect everyone. The Rice Color guard will render honors at the event.

--The Upsala American Legion Auxiliary Unit 350 partnered with Upsala Area Schools for a Poppy Poster Contest. There will be members of local American Legion Auxiliary out this month for Poppy Month at area businesses. National Poppy Day National Poppy Day is Friday, May 26th. Poppy poster winners were awarded a certificate and a $10 from Auxiliary Unit 350. Poster winners include Natasha Crowe, William Barthel, Ruby Klug and Genevieve Mrozek.

--The Emblom Brenny Funeral Service wanted to again thank all who donated to the Hotdish Fundraiser for Hospice. Trent Iverson told LF Radio yesterday they continue to get donations and have more than $5,000 for Hospice. They already are being approached with many churches wanting to do the next one likely in 2024. Thank You to all who gave and the churches that brought the hotdishes for the event.

HS SB= Pierz at Mora today in a double-header, first game at 4pm, second game to follow on AM960 KLTF. The 5pm news will be heard in between the two softball games today on KLTF.
