On Saturday a report a vehicle hitting the ditch at Dove Road and 250th Avenue north of Randall. Then on Sunday a report of a two vehicle accident at 120th Avenue and 30th Street south of Bowlus. --A 54-year-old Garrison woman who pleaded guilty to two felony theft charges after nearly $40,000 in gambling funds went missing from the Garrison Fire Department Relief Association’s coffers avoided potential jail time by paying her restitution in full last week. As part of the agreement Shawn Marie Luedtke agreed to pay back restitution in full or risk 180 days in jail. In 2019, Luedtke told investigators she took the money with the intent to pay it back, using it for gambling at the casino. Luedtke argued $15,000 would cover the organization’s losses and filed an affidavit contesting the $44,458 in restitution ordered by Crow Wing County District Judge Erik J. Askegaard. Luedtke was issued to pay back $37,283 in stolen funds and $7,175 paid to a gambling manager who helped identify the discrepancies in the association’s ledger. Luedtke made a $29,718 payment last week, the remaining balance, which completed her restitution obligation.

Gunderson told the agent he was upset with the state Department of Corrections and with certain DOC agents, including the one he was talking to. Gunderson made comments about assaulting his own brother, then specifically stated he had plans to go to Runnings in Moorhead, Minnesota, and buy an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. According to court records, he said he then planned to return to Detroit Lakes and shoot up Rossman Elementary School. He said he would walk around with a bullet-resistant vest, and expressed no concern about getting into a shootout with police, saying he wanted to die by “suicide by cop.” After the meeting, the agent was so concerned he waited in the area to monitor Gunderson until police arrived.
