NEWS

--The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal ATV accident on Thanksgiving at 3:45pm west of the Brainerd Airport. When authorities arrived they found two ATV riders were traveling in a large field west of the airport when they went air born after striking a drainage valley in the field landing in the drainage area. The ATV apparently rolled multiple times. The driver of the ATV, 18-year-old Tashaud Nelson of Apple Valley was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in the Twin Cities. The passenger was identified as 16-year-old Isabella Brandt of Apple Valley was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither individuals were wearing helmets or any other protective riding gear at the time of the accident.

--St. Cloud police are investigating after finding a baby who had died. On Sunday at about 6:30am officers were called to the 2900 Block of Maine Prairie Road to conduct a welfare check on a woman and her child. During the welfare check, officers discovered a deceased three-month-old child. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 26-year-old Fardoussa Abdillahi from St. Cloud for allegedly causing the death of her child. This child has been transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s office. Abdillahi was transported to the Stearns County Jail to be held on charges related to 2nd Degree Murder.

--A Monticello man was taken to the hospital after rolling his vehicle Saturday afternoon. The incident happened around 12:15pm on I-94 near Clearwater. The Minnesota State Patrol says 56-year old Michael Scott was heading east on I-94 when he drifted off to the left ditch and rolled multiple times. Scott was taken to North Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

--A six-year old boy was airlifted to the hospital after being run over by a trailer. The incident happened just before 4pm Friday at a tree farm business in the 67000 block of Highway 24 in Forest City Township in Meeker County. The Meeker County Sheriff's Office says the boy was riding on a trailer with his parents and friends when he fell off. He was then run over by the trailer. The boy was airlifted to HCMC with internal injuries. Authorities says the extent of */the injuries are unknown but not believed to be life threatening.

--Local police are investigating several shoplifting incidents over the weekend. Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud says the incidents occurred at Macy's, JCPenney, Scheel's, and Kohl's. He says they have suspects identified but they have not been arrested yet. He says they are still working on how much property damage was done, whether there was any threats of violence, and exactly how many people were involved at each store. Waite Park Police is working with St. Cloud police and are expecting to release more information later Monday. Bentrud calls it "a series of coordinated shoplifting incidents that they have seen many times before".

--Investigators with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant Saturday, November 20th in Backus, seizing 26.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine. A 61-year-old man was located and arrested at the residence during the execution of the search warrant. Formal charges are pending. Tips may be submitted safely and anonymously through the website at crimestoppersmn.org or by calling 1-800-222-8477.

--Chaplain Gregg Valentine and Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen wanted to thank all who made the Chaplaincy Pizza Fundraiser a success. $5,195 was raised for the Chaplaincy program. Many thanks to all who helped and those those dropped of food for the food shelf and coats for the coat drive. Thanks again for all the help.

--The Pierz Area Commerical Club presents the 14th Annual St. Nick Night in Pierz Wednesday from 4-8pm. This year most of the events are at St. Joseph's Church Parking Lot and also at Holy Trinity School behind the school. There will be holiday trolley rides around the town to see the lights, live animals representing the Nativity, pictures with Santa also Father Pierz School of Religion will have gifts for $1 for moms and dads to be bought by their children along with hot cocoa and smores outside in the fire pit by the school. Take in the events Wednesday night in Pierz.

--Some much needed help has arrived at St. Cloud Hospital. Around 23 medical personnel with the U.S. Air Force arrived in St. Cloud this weekend, to assist staff in treating patients as Minnesota hospitals continue to deal with staffing shortages. Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Huseman is the Officer in Charge of the St. Cloud Medical Response Team. He says they began orientation Saturday and should be integrated on various units in the next day or so. Formal orientation began Sunday and again Monday and after that we move into a standard shift schedule. It could be helping with gaps in schedules, nights or days it all depends on what goes on. Huseman says his team consists of doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists who will provide additional support within the ICU, surgical units, and emergency rooms at the hospital all to help those in need.

NFL= The Minnesota Vikings will be without their star running back Dalvin Cook for some time due to a torn labrum and dislocated shoulder. Head Coach Mike Zimmer did not give a timeline for Cook's return. NFL insiders stated that Cook is likely to miss the next 2 to 4 games but could return before the end of the season.
