NEWS
--Though some schools like Pillager started last week and some students don't report to class on Wednesday today for most schools in the state is the start of the new school year. School buses will be out early and late in the day picking up and dropping off kids so please watch for buses and school traffic today, expect slow downs around the schools and remember to stop for buses when their cross arms are extended or you see the flashing yellow and red lights. Lets make this a safe and happy school year for all.

--The human remains found in south Fargo near the Red River August 22nd are those of former Little Falls resident Brenda Kartes. Deputy Chief Joe Anderson said evidence found at the site of where the remains were discovered in a Fargo cemetery has police treating Kartes' death as suspicious. He said a medical examiner was not able to determine a manner or cause of death for Kartes. Anderson said the department treats all suspicious deaths as homicides until definitive information becomes available. The deputy chief said anyone with information regarding Kartes’ death or disappearance should call police at 701-241-5777. The family stated that Kartes was last seen in July 2018 leaving a Fargo facility. She was 31 years old when she went missing. The family has set up a funeral for Kartes on Friday at the Holy Cross Church in West Fargo.

--Mike and Dawn Lattimer announced on Facebook Friday that they are planning on reopening the bakery in Little Falls on Friday just in time for the Arts and Crafts Fair this weekend. The business name will be changed to Little Falls Bakery and Deli but it will be a while before the sign with the old name is taken down. Mike said normal business hours, Monday through Friday, will be from 6am-4pm and Saturday from 6am-2pm. Though this weekend Saturday and Sunday the bakery is open 5:30am to 5pm for the crafters.

--A reminder that the roads of Little Falls will be getting filled with traffic and visitors later this week as the Arts and Crafts Fair will be in the downtown Little Falls area, West Little Falls Antiques and Collectibles will be at LeBourget Park near the railroad tracks. There is still construction on the west side of Little Falls so expect slow downs and delays. The Lone Eagle Car Show is Sunday at the fairgrounds. A busy weekend so please be safe if traveling.

--The Morrison County Animal Humane Society is present their Dog Walk Yappy Hour tomorrow at Linden Hill starting at 5pm. Tickets are available at Linden Hill and the Humane Society all all proceeds of the picnic meal and dog walk go to help with their upkeep in Little Falls. --State officials say traffic deaths in Minnesota increased 6% last year. The Department of Public Safety says 381 people died in crashes in 2018 with speed being the main factor in about a third of the fatalities. The agency's Office of Traffic Safety says failing to wear seat belts resulted in 96 deaths, while 84 deaths were tied to impaired driving and 29 to distractions. The deaths included 45 pedestrians and 48 people on motorcycles. So far in 2019, 223 deaths have been reported, compared with 218 last year.

--The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has announced their September Employee of the Month is Michelle Athmann at CHI St. Gabriel’s Health. Michelle is a Recruiter for CHI St. Gabriel’s Health and has worked for CHI St. Gabriel’s Health of 11 years. Congratulations Michelle Athmann, Little Falls Chamber of Commerce September employee of the month.

--Little Falls Firefighters were called out to a semi truck fire Friday afternoon around 1:30pm on Highway 371 north of Little Falls. The thick dark smoke was seen for miles as firefighters arrived on scene. The semi was engulfed in flames and was ruled a total loss. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and was not injured.

--A dedication of the of the Veterans Art Memorial will take place on September 22nd at 2pm at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery north of Little Falls. The program will honor all branches of the U.S. Military and show off the committal hall with all five branches, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marines and the final of U.S. Air Force. All are welcome to come and see the finals works of artist Charles Kapsner that took a decade to complete. Kapsner will first unveil the portrait during the Camp Ripley Open House scheduled for September 15th from 10am-2pm at Camp Ripley which is located near the State Cemetery. You will need a photo ID to enter Camp Ripley.

--The Little Falls City Council meets tonight at 7:30 at City Hall.

--Actress Valerie Harper, who starred as Rhoda on TV for Mary Tyler Moore and her spinoff Rhoda, has died at age 80.

SPORTS
NFL= Pro Football Hall of Fame center Jim Langer who won the Super Bowl with the Miami Dolphins' 1972 perfect season, has died at the age of 71. A Royalton, Minnesota native, Langer played at South Dakota State. Langer finished his career in 1981 with Vikings. He was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1987.
TWINS= Twins score 9 runs in the first 3 innings on route to a 13-5 win over Detroit on Friday. Twins blast 6 homeruns on Saturday including two from Mitch Garver but it was not enough as the Tigers win 10-7. Twins get back on winning track Sunday beating Tigers 8-3. Max Kepler's 2 run single in the 8th helped Twins beat Detroit 4-3 on Monday. The Twins (85-52) now open series at Boston tonight with pregame at 5:30pm on Q92 WYRQ. 6 games up in the AL Central.
CLASS C= Buckman battled to win 3-2 in 17 innings when Joe Kahl stole home to win over Young America to advance to Sunday. Chad Weiss shuts down Farming Sunday as Buckman wins 5-1 to advance to the state semi-finals Sunday night. Jordan ended Buckman's season on Sunday night 4-3. Jordan won the Class C Tournament.
