NEWS
--It's back to school today for a number of students. A reminder to be watchful for school buses and students heading to school this morning before 8am and then after 3pm this afternoon when school gets out. Students watch for motorists and motorists watch for school buses as it is illegal to pass a school bus when its lights are flashing and stop arm extended on two-way roads in Minnesota. Let's please make this a safe start to the school year. Some students do not head back until tomorrow and even others return to class next week. This year there will be a number of differences as some students will be on hybrid or distance learning the COVID-19 numbers will decide by county on if the schools can continue with in class learning. Also schools will be using body scanners for heat temperature to see if they student has a fever which could lead to symptoms of COVID-19.

--The Minnesota Department of Health sent out an alert over the weekend for those between the ages of 18-25. In the past three weeks the numbers of increased heavily making that age group the highest by more then 2,500 cases over the next demographic with those contracting COVID-19. However there has only been 1 death in the that age group linked to the virus and only 120 others under the age 60 of COVID-19. Numbers of gone up in the past days in many counties including Morrison County which saw the largest number of positive cases in a 3 day period since testing began. Six cases on Saturday, 11 on Sunday and another 7 on Labor Days report bringing Morrison County to 149 cases yesterday morning. Morrison County has had 55 new cases since testing on August 14th about a month ago and 42 of those cases since testing reported on August 21st.

--An Upsala man is hurt after a farming accident Thursday morning. The Morrison County Sheriff's Office was called to a farm one mile southeast of Upsala around 10:30am Thursday. Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen says 41-year old Kenneth Wielenberg was unloading silage from a silage box trailer when it got clogged. While trying to clear the auger, Wielenberg got his arm caught in the machinery. Authorities say he was airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center with extensive injuries to his right arm.

–A Foley man was injured in a two vehicle accident Wednesday night before 7pm on Highway 95 at 165th Avenue in Benton County. 29-year-old Bridget Gohmann of Becker stopped at the intersection when a motorcycle driven by 53-year-old Steven Thole of Foley struck her rear tire and he was thrown from the cycle. Thole was taken to St. Cloud Hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries.

--Two people from Onamia and an infant were involved in an accident Thursday around 5:30pm on Highway 169 at 250th Street in Mille Lacs County. 22-year old Hayleigh Nickaboine of Onamia went off the roadway, struck the center median and went airborne. Nickaboine and passenger, 18-year old Andres Alverez-Salgado were treated at a hospital for minor injuries. An infant child in the vehicle, Marcos Nickaboine had no apparent injuries. The driver Hayley informed the State Patrol that both she and the passenger fellen asleep.

--Some counties have announced there have been a large number of requests for absentee ballots like in Stearns County where there are over 12,000 requests for absentee ballots which is nearly 4 times as many at this time before the 2018 elections. Absentee voting for the general election begins September 18th. You can call your local county auditor/treasurer or go to the secretary of state website for absentee voting information on the upcoming general election.

--The Morrison County Sheriff's Office reported Saturday that there is now a $2,500 reward for information leading to the finding of a camper/trailer that was taken Wednesday night from a residence southwest of Randall in Parker Township. Information is available at the Morrison County Sheriff's Office facebook page.

--Officially dubbed as the “MCUW Business Blitz”, Morrison County United Way Board Members and Executive Director, Meghann Boser will reach out to businesses on September 16th to raise awareness of the many impactful programs the local United Way chapter offers to both Morrison County and the surrounding area. Due to COVID19 restrictions, courtesy calls are currently being made to determine if businesses can be visited in person or prefer a virtual touchpoint. The busy day will include contact with approximately 200 local businesses and employers to deliver informational packets and answer any questions owners, employees, or even customers may have about the organization. New this year, businesses can check out the virtual “Business Tool Kit” which offers resources for employees to donate and businesses the social media tools to promote their support of United Way. Volunteers will also be accepting donations.

--Authorities say a man has been rescued after he was pinned under a tree for more than four days while working on his land in southern Minnesota. The Redwood County Sheriff's Office says 59-year-old Jonathan Ceplecha was cutting down oak trees August 27th near Redwood Falls when a one of them fell and landed on his legs. Deputies responding to a call Monday afternoon for a welfare check after he didn't show up for work found Ceplecha in a ravine with his legs pinned. His son, Miles Ceplecha says his father survived the ordeal by not panicking and trying to keep his mind distracted.

SPORTS
TWINS= Twins win both games of a double header Friday beating Detroit 2-0 in Game 1 and coming back to 3-2 in 8 innings in Game 2 (extra innings for a 7 inning double header game). Byron Buxton wins it in the 9th for the Twins Saturday 4-3 over Tigers. Tigers came back to win on Sunday 10-8 over Twins. Twins get an all around effort by the team in a 6-2 win Monday over Detroit to take 4 out of the 5 games. Twins will play a double header today against St. Louis Cardinals who opted to play both games of the series in one day. The first game starts with a 2:15pm first pitch, pregame at 1:30pm with second to follow around 5pm on Q92 WYRQ.
NFL= The Washington Football Team released former Viking Adrian Peterson on Friday. It did not take long for Peterson to get picked up and he is back in the NFC North. Peterson reportedly has signed a one year deal to play with the Detroit Lions this year.
WNBA= Lynx vs. Washington tonight. Lynx #4 seed now in playoffs.
