NEWS
--The 29th Annual Morrison County Sheriff's Office Sandbox Fill will be held on Tuesday May 16th. Anyone within a three mile radius of Bank Square in downtown Little Falls may have a sandbox filled. This will be limited to 40 residences on a first come first serve basis. A limit of three wheelbarrows per household and all that is required is a donation to the Morrison County Food Shelf. Donations can be given at the time of the sandbox fill or left by the sandbox if you are not at home. Sandboxes will be filled on the 16th between 7am and 4pm. To place your name on the list call 320-631-2880. The headline to have our name on the list is due May 15th. If no answer please leave your name, address, phone number and where the sandbox is located on the answering machine.

--Authorities have released the name of a St. Cloud man killed in a hit-and-run last week. The St. Cloud Police Department says 70-year-old Norbert Olmscheid, was hit by a vehicle while out on a walking path between 9th Avenue and 6th Avenue North around 8pm Friday night. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. A 16-year-old Sauk Rapids boy was in custody in relation to the incident and has been charged with murder after allegedly running down a pedestrian and killing him Friday night. The Stearns County Attorney's Office is charging 16-year-old Israel Muyaya Madimba as an adult in the case. Preliminary charges include 1st-degree premeditated murder and 2nd-degree murder with intent but not premeditated. Ultimately, a grand jury will be convened to determine whether the 1st-degree murder charge is warranted. According to the criminal complaint, Madimba found some keys in a locker at the St. Cloud Area YMCA and stole a car belonging to them. Madimba allegedly told authorities that he saw the victim, 70-year-old Norbert Olmscheid, walking on a path and decided to run him over. Records show Madimba drove up onto the path and was driving slowly behind Olmscheid when he accelerated and struck him. Olmscheid was taken to the hospital where he later died.

--In a notice sent Monday morning to parents and guardians of students at Pillager Public Schools, school officials announced the school would be closing at 1pm yesterday due to a threat to presented to the school district on social media. The Cass County Sheriff's Office later Monday said the threat was determined to not be credible, and school officials reported Monday afternoon classed could resume Tuesday morning. "We appreciate the collaboration and the support that we received from the Cass County Sheriff's Department throughout the entire day. We also are thankful for your calm reaction to this situation and the patience given to each office staff as they worked through dismissing students," school district officials said in an email sent to parents at 4pm Monday. "We know that days like this also cause many disruptions in your day as well and may also cause anxiety and stress for you and your children." District officials, in canceling classes, did so as a precaution. "Pillager Public Schools takes all threats and the safety of our students and staff seriously," district officials said in the notice to parents and guardians. In addition to canceling classes for the remainder of Monday, district officials canceled after school activities.

--Little Falls Community High School Principal Tim Bjorge stated yesterday that the Day of Caring is planned still for next Wednesday, May 3rd from 8:30-12pm. If you signed up expect students and volunteers to be there next week. Listen to LF Radio if any changes.

--A Holdingford man has changed his plea to guilty just ahead of his criminal sexual conduct trial for sexually abusing two young girls. 50-old Eugene Loehrer was accused of abusing the girls for years, starting when they were as young as the 5th grade. He pleaded guilty to two counts of 1st degree criminal sexual conduct with victims under 16, including multiple acts over time. One of the girls said Loehrer smoked cocaine with her in November of 2020 and since then began giving her marijuana in exchange for sexual favors. The girl said the abuse was both physical and emotional. A second girl also told authorities about sexual abuse at the hands of Loehrer. The girls said Loehrer told them not to tell anyone or he would get into trouble. Loehrer will be sentenced on July 21st.

--It was reported that authorities were at Heritage Park in St. Cloud Tuesday afternoon on a report of a dead body. The St. Cloud Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are conducting the death investigation. Authorities say there is no threat to public safety but no other information was released on Tuesday.

--The Brainerd Elks announced they have awarded their National Most Valuable Student award to Carissa Andres of Pierz Healy High School. For making it to their national level of competition, she will receive a minimum $4,000 scholarship. Many other students from lakes area schools like Pillager and Brainerd also received awards.

--As expected President Joe Biden announced he will be running for reelection in 2024 yesterday. Many others have announced they are running in 2024 including former President Donald Trump.
