--Little Falls Community Schools Superintendent Stephen Jones stated yesterday on KLTF that registration week is underway today 8-3 and tomorrow 12-7 at the high school, no appointments needed and this helps give the services and items that students, families need to know about the next school year. Jones stated that there is still a month before school starts and the plan they have in place now may change before school starts September 7th. As of today, the school announced they will not have a mask mandate, again they understand if some students wish to still wear masks but they will be forced to be worn at least for now but state mandates could change. They will continue to work with hand sanitizing, quarantine protocols for those in contact with COVID-19, asking if ill to stay home still when school starts in September. Jones did state that there IS a mask mandate for buses and that all students and drivers and anyone on a school bus must wear a mask at all times while on the bus going too and from school. Jones mentioned that the Distance Learning mandate did go away and as of now there will be no distance learning items for the fall school year but again unless changed by state or federal guidelines. Activities are starting up next week and the school is ready to go for the next school year and Jones stressed the main word this year is normalcy for students. Questions on the school year contact Jones at 632-2001.

--The CDC stated late Monday that now 70 counties in the state are considered substanial or high risk for COVID-19 and the Delta Variant and recommended, again not mandating just recommending that these counties should have all wearing masks at any indoor facilities. The counties included in the substantial catageory, Morrison, Aitkin, Benton, Cass, Crow Wing, Douglas, Mille Lacs, Otter Tail, Sherburne, Todd, Wadena and Wright. Counties in the High or very High category include Kanabec, Hubbard, Kandiyohi and Stearns. As the new school year approaches, the CDC is also recommending teachers, staff, students and visitors wear masks inside school buildings regardless of vaccination status. Again this is only a recommendation by the CDC and each school district right now has been given local authorization on if they want students and staff to wear masks or not but again government officials could change it.

--A Sartell man faces seven felony charges and four other lesser charges stemming from three separate police chases last week. 36-year old Jason Schwieger is charged with various felony counts of fleeing police, stalking, and threats of violence with reckless disregard. Three separate charging complaints outline the series of events where Schwieger and his wife had gotten into an argument and she left out of fear for her safety. Schwieger is accused of using their two daughters to try to force an exchange for the wife to return. The children were ultimately returned to their mother after an exchange was arranged at the Family Dollar store in Sartell Friday. Schwieger fled without the children when he saw police officers who were positioned in the area attempt to arrest him in the parking lot. Police received a call on Saturday that Schwieger was seen sleeping in an SUV in his driveway. Officers arrived and blocked in the SUV with a squad car. Schwieger ultimately climbed into the driver's seat of the SUV and backed up into a squad car, and maneuvered his way free by driving through the yard. Again, he is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase, this time south on Highway 15 and east on Highway 23. Police ended the pursuit when Schwieger turned onto Wilson Avenue in St. Cloud and headed toward the Benton County Fair. Schwieger was found at a location in Sauk Rapids Sunday morning and was arrested.
