NEWS
--The filing period for elections in cities and school districts that do not have primary elections, like the city of Little Falls starts next week on Tuesday, July 31st and lasts until 5:00pm Tuesday, August 14th. The primary election is August 14th and the general election is November 6th. A list of candidates who have filed will continue to be posted at www.sos.state.mn.us.

--Members of the Haiti Partnership were on Little Falls Radio Tuesday to speak about their project and an upcoming concert. Back in 2012, residents of central Minnesota traveled to Haiti after the devastating earthquakes in the country back in 2010. Since then they have returned to bring clean water, mobile medical clinics, clothing, housing needs and much more. Recently the group established a means to allow women of Haiti to start their own businesses. The Haiti Partnership will host two benefit concerts starring the Jumpin' Jehosafats music group later this week. On Friday at 7:00pm at Motley United Methodist Church in Motley and then on Saturday at 7:00pm at Maple Island Park in Little Falls. The concerts are free to attend, although donations will be taken for their trip in November to Haiti and their projects. More information on their projects will be discussed at the free concerts Friday and Saturday and can be found on their Haiti Partnership facebook page.

--Three St. Cloud retail stores have agreed to pay $100 penalties for selling tobacco to underage buyers. The St. Cloud Police Department conducted compliance checks at licensed tobacco establishments in the city in March. The three establishments that failed compliance checks are: Nick's Discount Liquor; SuperAmerica, 2510 Second Street South; and SuperAmerica at 702 33rd Avenue North. At Nick's Discount Liquor and the first SuperAmerica employees did not ask for identification to verify the purchaser's age. At SuperAmerica on 33rd Avenue North, the employee requested age identification but then sold the product to the operative after being told identification had been forgotten. For all three establishments, it is the first violation in the last 24 months.

--The ROCORI School District officially approved the employment of their new leader Monday night, Brad Kelvington. The firm that the school board hired in May received 26 applicants for the ROCORI position, of which six were interviewed. Kelvington was selected from those six. He was the previous superintendent in Aitkin.

--Businesses and residents in the Kimball area are invited to attend an open house and provide feedback on proposed plans for a 2020 Highway 15 construction project through Kimball. The open house will be held Tuesday, August 7th, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Kimball City Hall. Open house attendees will be able to learn about the project’s proposed construction plans, including work to be performed and tentative traffic plans. MnDOT staff will be on hand to answer questions and take comments about the project. All input will be considered to refine the final plans prior to construction. The project is scheduled for the 2020 construction season and will reconstruct Highway 15 between the railroad tracks in Kimball and Highway 55. The project as proposed includes reconstructing the road, new curb and sidewalks, and city utilities replacement. Open house attendees may also take home information on other MnDOT projects in the area, including a 2019 project that will resurface Highway 15 between Kimball and St. Augusta. --A 37-year old Foley man was charged Monday on suspicion of breaking into Stoney's Bar in Rockville early Sunday morning. Jason Edward Carson made his first court appearance Tuesday for one felony count of third degree burglary and one felony count of possession of burglary or theft tools. Carson was released on a $150,000 unconditional bond or $75,000 conditional bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for September 24th.

--Three people were injured in a three vehicle, rear end crash Saturday on Highway 210 and Knollwood Drive in Baxter. The Baxter Police Department reported 15-year old Cora J. Kuhl of Baxter was driving around 3:30pm and rear ended 80-year old Carolyn G. Hale of Brainerd. The rear end crash then caused a third vehicle driven by 32-year old Randy A. Bourassa of Pillager to be struck. Kuhl and Bourassa were not injured. Hale and her passenger, 47-year old Linda M. Hale of Brainerd, were injured and transported to Brainerd. Bourassa's passenger, 26-year old Bridjett K. Miller of Pillager was taken to the hospital. All reported non life threatening injuries.

NATIONAL NEWS
--Pepperidge Farms is recalling four types of Goldfish crackers because there is a chance whey powder used in the seasonings contains Salmonella. There have not been any reports of illnesses linked to the recall, but Pepperidge Farms said it is acting out of an abundance of caution. The four types of crackers included in the recall are: Flavor Blasted Xtra Cheddar; Flavor Blasted Sour Cream and Onion; Goldfish Baked with Whole Grain Xtra Cheddar; Goldfish Mix Xtra Cheddar + Pretzel. If you bought any of the crackers included in the recall, you should throw them out or return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund.

TWINS= Eduardo Escobar hit a big homerun and Jose Berrios struck out 9 to pick up the shutout win 5-0 Tuesday over the Blue Jays. Ervin Santana returns to the mound for the first time this season for the Twins off of injury today to wrap up the series in Toronto, pregame at 2:30pm on Q92 WYRQ.
LYNX= Lynx outlasted the New York Liberty last night to win 85-82 at Target Center. Sylvia Fowles had 27, all 5 Lynx starts were in double figures by end of the game. The Lynx are 15-10 and now will host the All Star Game Saturday afternoon at the Target Center.

Join the Little Falls Radio Cash Cube Thursday at Healthy Blends in Little Falls from 8-10am, Friday at Brand Used in Little Falls from 11am-1pm and then Saturday the Little Falls Business Association is hosting the Cash Cube at Shoppes of Little Falls from 10am-12pm. The Cash Cube is planned for stops next week in Brainerd and Royalton so check it out.
