NEWS
--Morrison County Public Works will be permanently closing County Road 200 (Holt Rd) between Azure Road and Aster Road starting today June 15, 2022 in a joint effort with the State of Minnesota and BNSF to consolidate redundant street/railroad crossings, providing a safer transportation system to all users. Maintenance employees will be conducting the following activities weather pending: Mowing roadside ditches this week in all areas of the county, painting Stop Ahead symbols on various roads around the county, Installing culverts on CSAH 1 south of Elmdale, CSAH 37 east of Pierz, and CSAH 6 south of Sobieski. Please slow down in work zones.

--Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard reports Monday at approximately 6:56 pm, Crow Wing County Deputies responded to a report of a personal injury accident in the area of 13519 Thompson Road, Brainerd. Deputies arrived on the scene and learned that a pick-up truck was traveling east on Thompson Road when it struck a horse and a female walking the horse on the shoulder of the road. The female was determined to be deceased. The victim was identified as a 33-year-old female that lived on Thompson Road. The driver of the pick-up was identified as a 44-year-old male of Brainerd.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.

--A yard caught fire Sunday, June 12, after a resident lost control of a bonfire on North Lakeview Drive in Breezy Point. The Pequot Lakes Fire Department responded to the fire, reported at 9:16pm on Pelican Lake. According to Pequot Lakes Fire Chief Tom Nelson, a patron at Dockside Lounge saw a fire across the bay and made the report. Brainerd firefighters respond to multiple calls this weekend
The Dispatch publishes records as part of its obligation to inform readers about the business of public institutions and to serve as a keeper of the local historical record. Nelson said the resident had a bonfire in a fire ring that got out of control. The fire burned approximately a 20-by-20-foot section of the yard, from the fire ring to the lake. Fire crews were on the scene for about an hour with no structures damaged and no reported injuries.

--Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen stated with summer heat here Tuesday and even hotter temps this weekend some reminders from the National Weather Service and Sheriff's Office. Hydrate drink plenty of water, wear light colored clothing and use sunscreen, plan and schedule events away from the midday and early afternoon when the days seem to be the hottest, check on the pets and the elderly. Also try to avoid large meals and high protein foods that can raise body heat. Try to avoid caffeine and alcohol which can speed up dehydration, take frequent breaks if outdoors when starting to feel fatigued or weak and NEVER leave children or pets in a hot vehicle at any times during the hot weather ahead. Please be safe.

--More township clean up days this weekend. Pike Creek Township has cleanup day Saturday from Noon to 3pm at the Pike Creek Town Hall. Culdrum Township will also have a cleanup day Saturday from 8:30am-11:30am at Culdrum Town Hall. Appliances (freon free) at this one will be accepted free of charge. --Little Falls Community Schools wanted to thank their food service crew who last week alone served 680 breakfasts during the first week of the summer program. The free breakfast and lunch program runs today and Thursday and then next Monday through Thursday at the Little Falls Community High School.

--Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union announced that they Medallion has been found. Laurie K. found the medallion at the dog park in Little Falls by City Hall near a tree on Tuesday and wins $500 cash.

--A 23-year-old man was arrested at 10:33pm Monday by the Lakes Area Drug Investigative Division for a Cass County warrant for felony assault. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man on the 500 block of Second Avenue in Brainerd after learning of his location. The sheriff’s office also learned the man was in possession of bulletproof vest. In addition to the warrant, the man was arrested for possession of a firearm, committing a crime while in possession of a bulletproof vest and receiving stolen property. The case remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office reported.

--While some central Minnesota wading pools will be closed for the summer, one in Sauk Rapids has opened just in time to help people beat the heat wave. The city of Sauk Rapids announced Tuesday that the wading pool at Bob Cross Park on 1st Street South is officially open for the summer. The pool will be open from 2:00pm until 6:00pm seven days a week. City officials say the wading pool may have a condensed season though. Due to a shortage of lifeguards, the location may have to close for the season in early August.

FEDERAL HOLIDAY NEWS
--Reminder that last year President Joe Biden made Juneteenth which is on June 19th a Federal Holiday in honor of the announcement after the Civil War that enslaved African Americans were free. Since this year it falls on Sunday, next Monday, June 20th the federal holiday will be observed and that means that many government agencies, post offices, banks, financial institutions and other businesses are likely going to be closed for the holiday.

TWINS= Seattle shuts out Twins last night 5-0. The Twins wrap up in Seattle today, pregame 2:30pm on Q92 WYRQ.
TRACK= Cole Oslin from Pierz Schools announced that the Pierz All-Comer Track Camp is postponed. Due to recent events they will reschedule the event sometime in July. Exact dates will be posted soon as the new date is determined.
GOLF= Emily Virnig of Pierz shot a 94 and Abby Turkowski of Little Falls shot a 97 after Day 1 of the State Girls Golf Tournament. That placed Virnig in 42nd and Abby in 55th place.
BAB= State Baseball Tournament continues today, teams like Alexandria and New York Mills won on Tuesday to go to semi-finals while Sartell and Wadena Deer Creek lost their quarter-final game.
