NEWS
--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 8:21pm, their office received a report of a motorcycle accident with injuries on Great River Road south of 95th Street, in Swan River Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the motorcycle, 54-year-old Christopher Forsberg Brown of Sauk Rapids, MN was traveling south on Great River Road when he struck a deer with his motorcycle. Forsberg Brown and his 12-year-old juvenile passenger were transported by private vehicle to a hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

--Yesterday was the Legislative Update at Little Falls City Hall put on by the Chamber of Commerce. Each of the legislators stated their thoughts from the past session and what they hope will happen next. Senator Nathan Wesenburg said the last session was a Democrat wish list at the expense of Minnesotan, Senator Wesenburg said with higher taxes in a fight of good vs. evil and feels that the voters need to make the change at the next general election. Representative Ron Kresha said that a lot of the monies of this past session favored the metro area, one big thing is that there are new government employees and services and programs but why they are filling their void the private sector is taking a hit in getting workers. Kresha said the big thing for change is elections if you want things to stay the same is one thing, but if you want to get the jobs back in the private sector and allow people to have locally controlled decision then vote Republican in the next general election. Representative Isaac Schultz after his first term in the state house showed his disappointment and broken promises from the DFL and feels that they promises one thing and did something else. He was hoping that prioritize budget work as the budget recently passed was over the original base rate by over 20% and that means higher taxes and more cost for energy and families trying to make ends meet. Schultz says to move forward wasteful spending needs to end. The three were at the update on the session at City Hall as the session ended late last month and they will head back in the fall to the State Capitol.

--Authorities have released the name of a Foreston man killed in a head-on crash in Clear Lake over the weekend. The Minnesota State Patrol says around 11:45am Sunday a Chevrolet Tahoe heading east and a Ford Bronco heading west on Highway 10 collided at the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 24. The driver of the Tahoe, 77-year-old Charles McQuay, died as a result of the crash. Authorities say he was not wearing his seatbelt. The driver and passenger in the Bronco, 60-year-old Daniel Ferris and 58-year-old Kristi Ferris of Mound, were at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

--Drivers who plan to travel on Highway 10 in St. Cloud in the next few overnights should prepare for significant delays. Highway 10 will close in each direction for up to 15 minutes at a time while crews deliver and set bridge beams for the future westbound Highway 23 bridge that spans Highway 10. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says each of the seven beams is 84 feet long and will cause the delays as they are put into place. The closures started last night and will go 11pm to 5am until completed on the highway. The Minnesota State Patrol will be on hand to direct traffic and assist the workers. Drivers should watch for workers, directional signs, and equipment. Slow or stopped traffic should be expected as drivers approach Highway 23 in St. Cloud. Single-lane, head-to-head traffic on Highway 23 will remain unchanged during this time.

--A motorcycle driver was hurt in a crash in Elk River. The Minnesota State Patrol says the incident happened at about 5:20pm Monday. 60-year-old Donna Becklin of Princeton was on the off-ramp of southbound Highway 169 at Highway 10 when her bike went off the ramp and crashed into the ditch. Becklin was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids with non-life-threatening injuries

--A plea deal was reached in the case against a Crosslake man accused of helping his wife evade arrest for child torture charges. 37-year-old, Christopher Badowicz faced a felony charge of aiding an offender to avoid arrest after he lied to law enforcement about the whereabouts of his wife, Jorden Nicole Borders, when they sought to arrest her on the torture charges. Assistant Crow Wing County Attorney Janine LePage informed the courts that they learned from the children Badowicz was seen as a protector in their eyes. Badowicz likely did not know of the abuse as the children were treated better and fed when he was present in the household. Badowicz was sentenced to 90 days in jail, which was stayed for one year while on probation, unsupervised probation for one year and a $300 fine.

--More than 2,300 citations were handed out during the Click It or Ticket campaign. The campaign includes enforcement, education and awareness to influence smart seat belt choices. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says from May 22nd to June 4th, nearly 300 law enforcement agencies wrote 2,382 tickets for people not wearing a seat belt and issued 130 tickets for child seat violations. Minnesota State Patrol St. Cloud region wrote 92 tickets during the campaign. The St. Paul Police Department wrote the most at 310. Through June 11th, 24 people have died in crashes that weren’t wearing seat belts. That’s down from 34 at this same time last year and 41 from 2021. Preliminary counts show 87 unbelted motorists died on Minnesota roads in 2022 compared with 110 in 2021 and 105 in 2020. The department says 76% of unbelted fatalities in 2022 occurred in greater Minnesota.
