NEWS
--An angler is dead after falling from a boat into Trout Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) Monday. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a water emergency on Trout Lake, but poor cell phone reception delayed the reporting of what had occurred. Dispatchers were finally able to learn that a 51-year-old man from Morrison County had fallen from a fishing boat into the water and had been under the surface for two to three minutes. Sheriff's officials say the angler's companions and nearby fishermen in other boats were eventually able to find the man, pull him from the water and get to shore, where CPR was performed until first responders were able to reach the area. Despite efforts to save him the angler did not survive. He was not wearing a life jacket. St. Louis County County Sheriff's officials remind boaters that while air temperatures are warming up, water temperatures remain quite cold, especially in the northern part of the state. They say a personal floatation device, or life jacket is critical to surviving water-related accidents during this time of year.

--A Sauk Rapids man has been arrested after allegedly shooting a gun in downtown St. Cloud. St. Cloud police say at about 2am Saturday officers were outside the front of the Pickled Loon Bar in the 700 Block of West St. Germain Street on proactive patrol. As customers were exiting they told the officers there was a man with a gun inside. The officers then heard about five gunshots that came from outside in the back alley. The officers determined the man had exited the back entrance of the bar and fired his handgun into the air before leaving in a vehicle. Nobody was hurt. There had apparently been a verbal argument between the suspect and another person in the bar during which the suspect pulled out the gun in a threatening manner. Responding officers found the suspect's vehicle leaving the area and performed a maneuver to stop it at 10th Avenue and West St. Germain. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 20-year-old Jay Olson of Sauk Rapids. He has been identified as the shooter.

Seventy-one-year-old Judith Halvorson was taken to a hospital in Fosston and later was airlifted to a hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. There's no word on her condition.

--Walleye fishing on Mille Lacs Lake has returned to catch-and-release only for the rest of the summer. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has long imposed stricter regulations on the popular lake in an effort to boost its struggling walleye population. For the past several years, anglers haven't been able to keep walleye they catch on Mille Lacs during the summer. This spring anglers were allowed to keep one walleye apiece of specified sizes through the Memorial Day weekend. But that's ending for the summer, and walleye fishing will be off limits entirely for the first two weeks in July.

Outside surveillance cameras were moved or broken off. The suspects are described as two men wearing dark clothing and a dark hat. The second burglary attempt happened hours later Saturday morning at Pomp's Tire in the 8200 block of Old Highway Road North. Police say the suspects entered the business through a pried window.
