NEWS
--A scary incident on the campus of St. Cloud State University Monday night. The university issued a 'shelter in place" statement due to reports of a suspicious person on campus. The first message reported an active shooter on campus and informed students to stay indoors and hide if need be. That was not true it was later reported that later it was announced as a suspicious figure who was later taken into custody. Police in a statement from read: Tonight, May 8, St. Cloud State issued a shelter in place due to reports of a suspicious suspect on campus. The suspicious suspect is now in custody with local law enforcement. SCSU will continue to monitor campus conditions and work with law enforcement for safety. The shelter in place has been lifted and there is no further cause for concern.

--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday at approximately 1:19pm their office received a report of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Dove Road and Cable Road, approximately three miles south of Flensburg in Swanville Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 64-year-old John Samuelson of Little Falls was traveling north on Dove Road and 44-year-old Jeremy Brausen of Little Falls was traveling west on Cable Road. Samuelson failed to yield at the intersection and struck Brausen’s vehicle. Brausen was transported by Mayo Clinic Ambulance to St Gabriel’s Hospital with unknown injuries. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Mayo Clinic Ambulance.

--Road construction is in full gear. The City of Little Falls last week began the sidewalk work along with continued work on 4th Street Southeast. Roads are closed in areas and sidewalks also are closed for safety along portions in downtown Little Falls. Please follow the signs and barricaded areas around the city of Little Falls at this time. More road work continues on Highway 10 near St. Cloud, Highway 23 from St. Cloud east to Foley and then to Milaca and dozens of other road projects that have started. More road projects are scheduled to begin at Memorial Day on many major highways and city and county roads throughout the summer months. Slow down in work zones.

--Fire crews battled a building fire in Clearwater Township Tuesday morning. The Wright County Sheriff's Office responded Clearwater Auto Parts just before 11:30am on a report of a vehicle fire. Authorities arrived to find the fire had fully engulfed the building as well as grass in the area. As of 3pm emergency personnel have cleared the area. Authorities say it's believe the fire was started accidentally by employees working on a vehicle in the garage.
There were no injuries, but the fire caused considerable property damage including damage to a structure located on the property.

--A Paynesville man faces three felony counts of criminal sexual conduct after allegedly sexually abusing a child. According to the charges filed in Stearns County District Court, a 14-year-old girl told authorities that 40-year-old Matthew Steinemann had sexually assaulted her when she was as young as 11 years old. Court records allege Steinemann would go into the girl's bedroom on multiple occasions and have sexual contact with her. The girl said Steinemann would give her marijuana to keep her quiet about the abuse. The girl said the abuse started in November 2019 and continued until February of 2023. Court records show Steinemann has a prior conviction for criminal sexual conduct dating back to 2008.

--A search warrant executed at a Baxter home in connection with a Brainerd drive-by shooting netted over 41 pounds of THC products and criminal charges for a woman living there. Following a drive-by shooting in Brainerd on April 16, law enforcement conducted a search of a home on the 6700 block of Woida Road where they located a large amount of THC products along with two 9-millimeter handguns hidden in the wooded area and believed to have been used in the drive-by shooting. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the principal and most active ingredient in marijuana. On April 27, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Edgewood Drive for failing to signal. Officers identified the front-seat passenger as Ayden Michael Furlong–Mulligan, 18, of Baxter. During the traffic stop, Alexis Joy Hamann, 40, of Baxter, Furlong-Mulligan’s mother, drove up in a separate vehicle. Hamann and Furlong-Mulligan were arrested on drug charges resulting from the execution of the search warrant at her residence on April 16 that located the THC products.

--Linden Hill Conference and Retreat Center on Tuesday got a visit from a TV news crew. Linden Hill will be featured later this month in the Finding Minnesota segment on WCCO TV. The Finding Minnesota segment will air during the 10pm news on May 17th on WCCO TV.
