NEWS
--Holy Trinity School of Pierz School Principal Debra Meyer-Myrum after 41 years in Catholic Education announced she is retiring after this school year in Pierz. Meyer-Myrum worked at St. John's school in Lastrup before it became Holy Trinity. She was also at Mary of Lourdes in Little Falls in many capacities for 13 years and has spent the past 14 years as principal at Holy Trinity in Pierz. Meyer-Myrum stated that the board decided on Michelle Litke a staff member at Holy Trinity to replace Meyer-Myrum as principal to begin for the next school year. Meyer-Myrum will remain on as a mentor for students so she is not fully retiring as she says she is just taking a step back.

--Morrison County Public Works would like to remind farmers that planting crops within road right of way is illegal. State law prohibits plowing, tilling and/or planting in the right of way. They want to prevent any situation where crops block motorists’ vision, create erosion concerns or other safety issues. As weather permits, maintenance employees will be working on the following activities this week: crews will be doing culvert work on CSAH 34 east of Buckman along with shoulder work. This work will include one lane closed with flaggers controlling traffic. Maintenance crews will continue patching various roads around the county. Crews will be repairing a soft spot on County Road 245 east of Morrill. Please use caution around work crews and flashing lights.

--The Stearns County Sheriff's Office and Sartell Police were called to a shooting incident Tuesday morning on the 32000 block of River Oaks Lane in Le Sauk Township northeast of Sartell. Stearns County said that one person was injured from an apparent gunshot wound and taken to a nearby hospital. Officials on scene had ruled that it is believed this was a random incident and there is no danger to the immediate public. The investigation remains ongoing.

--A 22-year old from Becker was seriously injured in a two vehicle accident in Palmer Township near the Sherburne/Stearns County Line Saturday at 7:18pm. Joshua Ludens was approaching Highway 25 when he collided in the intersection with 39-year-old Mathew Quinlan of Clear Lake. Both drivers were taken to St. Cloud Hospital as Luden sustained life threatening injuries while Quinlan was treated and released for his non life threatening injuries.

--Brainerd Firefighters over the weekend were called to a lawn tractor on fire at 6:35pm Saturday on Garrett Lane. The fire did not threaten any structures and firefighters extinguished it. Then at 6:58pm they were called to a boat fire with the Crosslake Fire Department, no other details were released. Sunday morning another lawnmower fire was reported on Excelsior Road near a structure. Firefighters extinguished the fire and made sure the fire did not spread anywhere else which occurred around 9:30am Sunday. There were no injuries.

--An Annandale man survived crashing his dirt bike Sunday. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office got a call just after 7:15pm regarding a dirt bike in the ditch with its driver lying next to it. The crash happened along Highway 55 east of Kimball. Deputies arrived and talked with the driver, 27-year-old Brett Iees. He said he was driving in the ditch when he hit a large rock causing his bike to roll 5-6 times. Iees was wearing a helmet and protective gear and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He refused transport to the hospital and was cited for an Off-Highway Motorcycle Operation violation.

--The Crow Wing County Fair is looking forward to 2021 and the dates are Tuesday August 3rd through Saturday August 7th.

--Al Poser informed Little Falls Radio Tuesday the Farmers to Families Food Distribution reached out to him and said they have three semi-truck loads of food that need to distributed before May 31st but no drop off sites for the distribution. Poser is asking any non profit organizations, church or other entity that can help in holding the distribution event over the next few days to contact Poser to see if they can set up a time for this. --One person was injured after an SUV fired shots at 38th and Chicago on the intersection where the George Floyd incident occurred one year to the day. A large ceremony was underway yesterday morning before the shots were fired. A vehicle was seen speeding from the area but at this time no arrests have been made in the shooting.

--A Monticello man was sentenced Tuesday to 2 1/2 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for conspiring to commit arson at a Minneapolis bank. According to court documents 22-year-old Alexander Heil admitted that on May 28th of 2020 he and others intentionally helped in the arson of the Wells Fargo Bank building. Heil added fuel to the existing fire by throwing items into the flames. This case was the result of an investigation conducted jointly by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), area police and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division.

--Pierz School District George Weber announced they are going to open a time capsule that was placed when Pioneer Elementery School was built in 1991. The event will be live streamed on the School's Youtube page on Thursday morning at 9am. All are welcome to see what was left in the time capsule 30 years ago when the elementery was being done.
