NEWS
--On Saturday the Morrison County Sheriffs Office received a report of an ATV accident with injuries. Around 9:25pm a group of ATV's were traveling eastbound on 230th street approximately two miles west of Randall in Parker Township. 52-year old Tammy Woidyla of Bowlus swerved to miss another ATV driven by 55-year old Jayna Reed of Pillager. Woidyla's ATV clipped Reed's ATV and then rolled. Woidyla was taken to CHI St. Gabriels Hospital in Little Falls with a head injury. No one else was injured in the accident.

--The Upsala American Legion announced their plans to build a Veterans Memorial in Upsala. The memorial plans to honor those veterans who died from the U.S. Civil War through the recent battles in Iraq and Afghanistan. --Around 10:00am on Monday Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reports that emergency services responded to a report of an unresponsive child found in Rush Lake. The child was located near a dock in 2-3 feet of water by a parent and CPR was performed. The child was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis and is in the Intensive Care Unit. The name of the child is being withheld pending notification of family members.

--Two people were injured after they jumped out of a burning house in north Brainerd during the early hours Sunday. The Brainerd Fire Department received a report of a porch fire at a property on the 600 block of 9th Street around 2:30am. Officers reported that two occupants jumped from the second story and were being transported by ambulance, then airlifted to facilities in the Twin Cities. Their condition is unknown at this time. Firefighters had to work on keeping the fire from spreading to other houses. The fire appears to have started in the front porch and quickly spread through the house. The house was a total loss.

--The Crow Wing County Sheriffs Office responded to several injury motorcycle accidents and one of which was a fatal accident last weekend. The first crash was around 11:10am on Saturday on County Road 4 near Hudson Street in Lake Edward Township. A witness reported 61-year old Michael Wayne Moreland of Breezy Point was traveling south on County Road 4, when the motorcycle he was operating drove off the west side of the road and struck an approach. Moreland was transported by ambulance to Essentia Hospital for his injuries. The second crash was reported around 5:50pm on Monday on the 34000 block of County Road 39 in Ideal Township. 27-year old Daniel Schmidt of Pequot Lakes was injured and transported by ambulance to Essentia Hospital. According to a witness, Schmidt accelerated, causing the front tire to come off the ground and then crash. The third crash was reported around 6:10pm Monday on County Road 1 near Buchite Road. Emergency personnel responded to a report of a two vehicle crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle, a 63 year old male from Fifty Lakes was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 26 year old female from Isanti was transported by air to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The reports indicate the motorcycle had been traveling west on County Road 1, drove into the eastbound lane and was struck by the vehicle driving east on County Road 1. The names of the deceased and injured are being withheld pending notification of family. The crash remains under investigation.

--A 46-year old was injured early Monday on Interstate 94 west of Albany in Stearns County. Just after 2:00am, Joseph Kane of Sauk Centre was on a motorcycle that struck a deer. Kane was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of injuries.

--A 35-year old from Pillager was injured Sunday night around 9:45pm on Highway 210 in Sylvan Township west of Brainerd. Fred Foulkes was on 210 when he encountered a mechanical issue that caused his vehicle to leave the roadway and struck a tree. Foulkes was treated at the Brainerd hospital for injuries.

--A morning lightning strike was the cause of a garage fire in Farming Township Sunday. Just before 10:30am crews were called out to 24602 260th Street due to a garage fire. The homeowners, 50-year-old Robert and 46-year-old Deanna Kulzer were not at home during the fire. Authorities say lightning struck a tv antenna on the garage's roof and set a wire leading into the garage on fire. The lightning also buckled the garage door. No one was hurt in the fire.

--An Avon man was hurt after running over a tree that fell in the road due to high winds Sunday. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says 63-year old Thomas Skudlarek was driving his motorcycle near the 15-thousand block of County Road 151 in Holding Township around 11:30am when a thunderstorms led to strong winds and Skudlarek hit a tree that had fallen in front of him. He went into the ditch, hitting a sign and barbed wire fence. Skudlarek was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

--Due to Memorial Day on Monday, the Pierz City Council are scheduled to meet tonight at 7:00pm in the senior center which is located inside the Pierz city hall building.

--The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a legislative update Thursday from 10:30am-12pm in the council chambers at Little Falls City Hall. Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka and House of Representatives Majority Whip Ron Kresha will be on hand to review the previous legislation session. Also Senator Gazelka will be the guest Thursday at Up Front at 9:05am on AM960 KLTF.
