NEWS
--Little Falls Community High School Students and staff will hold its 11th Annual Day of Caring today. The students, staff and community members (over 1,000 volunteers) will provide over 3,000 hours of outdoor, spring cleanup service to seniors, disabled and homebound individuals within the cities of Little Falls and Randall as well as the villages of Sobieski and Flensburg. More than 170 individual homeowners have signed up for assistance. In addition, the students will provide assistance with clean-up at city parks and community areas. The public is reminded to drive cautiously this morning in these areas between 8:15am-Noon. Teams of student and adult volunteers will be walking between work locations and crossing streets carrying rakes and other clean-up equipment. The event is a rain or shine event unless there is very severe weather. Little Falls Radio would broadcast those announcements but it appears we are in store for nice weather today with a blend of clouds and sun and temperatures peaking this afternoon near 60.

--Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen announced Tuesday that he will seek re-election for Sheriff this fall. Larsen states that he continues to be active within the community and a lot of positive changes have been implemented during his two terms as Sheriff. Larsen is proud and humbled to serve the residents of Morrison County and is grateful for a dedicated and committed staff. “It has been a privilege to serve the citizens of Morrison County as their Sheriff. I look forward to serving our county with the community partnerships that I have made throughout the years. Our office will continue to be proactive while focusing on public safety.” Larsen has been with the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office for 22 years and has held multiple positions within the agency. Larsen is a lifelong resident of Morrison County and he is married to Heidi and they have 3 children: Abigail, Ellie and Isabelle.

--A gathering of outdoor recreational enthusiasts in celebration of the Camp Ripley Veterans State Trail project is a week from Thursday. People can learn about opportunities and benefits for motorized and non-motorized trails in the Central MN area. Camp Ripley Veterans State Trail (CRVST) Ribbon Cutting for motorized trail is at 5:00pm Thursday, May 12th at Soo Line Recreational Trail.

--The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation into the death of an inmate at the Anoka County Jail. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says at about 1:00am on Thursday detention deputies noticed an unresponsive man in his cell. Staff immediately requested help from EMS and began life-saving measures but he was declared dead at the scene. The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office. No other information about the incident has been released.

--Five people had to be rescued from Green Lake in Spicer after the boat they were in capsized. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office says they got a call just before 10:00 p.m. Monday of a capsized boat about 300 yards offshore from the Green Lake County Park boat access. None of the five people were wearing lifejackets. They all were able to climb on top of the boat until they were rescued by the New London Fire Department. Three of the teenage boys were taken by ambulance to Carris Hospital in Willmar to be treated for hypothermia.

--Rural MN CEP is hosting an outdoor job fair from 12:00-4:30pm tomorrow in the old Crestliner Parking Lot.

--A Stearns County judge has sentenced a Zimmerman man who pleaded guilty to soliciting a child for sex. 23-year-old Gunner Hoffard has received a stayed sentence of one year and three months in prison. He must register as a predatory offender and complete a Men Accountable for Sexual Exploitation class. Hoffard pleaded guilty to solicitation of a child to engage in sexual conduct in February. A second charge of using electronic communication to describe sexual conduct with a child has been dismissed as part of the plea agreement. According to the charges, Hoffard made a friend request to a decoy account of a girl set up by the Central Minnesota Human Trafficking Task Force. After the undercover officer accepted the friend request, Hoffard reached out and asked how old the girl was and the officer replied she was 15-years-old. Records show Hoffard then asked for nude pictures of the girl and referenced sex acts.

--A Clearwater horse owner owns a horse with the best odds to win this weekend's Kentucky Derby. The Kentucky Derby odds were determined this week and Zandon is 3 to 1 odds to win the race. That makes Zandon the favorite. Zandon is owned by Jeff Drown and Jill Vouk-Drown from Clearwater. Epicenter has the 2nd best odds at 7-2 with Messier at 8-1 and White Abarrio at 10-1. The 2022 Kentucky Derby post time is 5:57pm this Saturday.

--The Little Falls Community High School Drama and Music departments will present the musical Seussical in the Charles D. Martin Auditorium. Performances are tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, at 7:00pm. Doors open 30 minutes before the performance. The cast includes 42 students from grades 4-12. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. All seats are reserved seating. Those with questions about tickets or seating, are asked to call the activity office 616-2207.

--The city wide Randall Garage Sales are today, tomorrow and Friday.

--The Greater MN Two Cylinder Club Field Days are scheduled this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Morrison County Fairgrounds. Admission is $8 each day.

SUPREME COURT
--Monday evening Politico published a draft of an opinion in a major abortion case that was argued in the fall. The document indicates the court could be poised to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion nationwide. On Tuesday, in a statement, the court confirmed the draft’s authenticity, though it cautioned that the document “does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case.” Chief Justice John Roberts ordered an investigation into the leak’s source.
