NEWS
--An event is being planned to discuss opioid use and the disease of addiction on November 19th at Cabin Fever north of Little Falls. The event called Change the Outcome will have social hour at 6:30pm and the discussion with their panel at 7pm. Because of food and number of tables they ask for you to RSVP by Friday by contacting Erin Foss at ErinFoss@catholichealth.net or call Erin at 631-7244. The event is being sponsored by the Flavin Family.

--Public works will continue patching potholes on various roads around Morrison County. Most patching will be on CSAH 76, and on county road 213 north of little falls. This work will cause one lane to be closed and flaggers directing traffic. Maintenance Workers will continue clearing brush from county right of ways this week in the central and southeast parts of the county. Please use caution around crews as they will be in and out of ditches.

--Students and staff at St. Cloud Technical College will have to work around some construction over the next few days. The college is cleaning up after a sprinkler caused some water damage to the Health Sciences Building Tuesday morning. The sprinklers were located on the 2nd floor of the building and the water extended to the basement level. Work to fix the damage will take place over the next four to six days and should only cause minimal disruption to students. The Health Sciences Building was closed Tuesday but will reopen for staff and students today around some construction areas.

--A 49-year old was injured Sunday night around 9:15pm on Highway 10 at Aldrich in Wadena County. David Spangler of White Bear Lake was eastbound on Highway 10 when he struck a deer crossing the road. Spangler was taken to the Wadena Hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries.

--Deer hunters who went out on the opening weekend of the firearms season likely bagged a white-tail this year according to the preliminary harvest numbers. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says 81,158 deer were registered statewide between Saturday and Monday. The DNR's statistics also show a majority of the deer were bucks, with 46,821 of the registered deer listed as adult males. That figure represents nearly 58% of the entire harvest. The firearms season continues for most of the state through Sunday. After November 17th, firearms hunting will only be allowed in special permit areas until the muzzleloader season opens Saturday, November 30th. The archery season goes until the end of December.

--Authorities say the Voyageur Park Lodge in northeastern Minnesota has been destroyed by fire. St. Louis County sheriff's officials say no one was at the lodge in Kabetogama at the time the fire broke out about 5pm. The lodge on the shores of Lake Kabetogama is a popular vacation spot in St. Louis County. Authorities say 11 cabins on the property were not damaged.

--The redevelopment of the old Ford site in St. Paul continues to move forward, after years of debate over what should be done with it. Mayor Melvin Carter and Ryan Companies announced the redevelopment proposal on Tuesday. The 122 acres of land used to be the home of the Ford assembly plant. The plan agreed upon by the mayor and Ryan Companies will include 3,800 housing units, 265,000 square feet of office space, and 150,000 square feet of retail space. The proposal includes an investment of $92 million for new public parks and infrastructure. That will be funded partially by $53 million in tax increment financing.

--According to a press release Tuesday afternoon Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard reported that his office received a 911 call around 2:00pm Tuesday reporting an infant was found unresponsive at a residence located in Crow Wing Township. Deputies along with other emergency responders responded and assisted with live saving measures. The infant was pronounced deceased at Essentia Health, St. Joesph’s Medical Center in Brainerd a short time later. Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office Investigators along with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the cause of death and more information will be available at a later date.

--On Monday evening the Brainerd Police Department took a missing person/endangered report on Jaimie Anderson but she has since been located. She was in need of medication that would prevent an emergency medical condition. The Brainerd Police Department wanted to thank everyone who helped getting the word out.

--Pierz Healy High School presents their fall musical “Cinderella” at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at the High School on Thursday November 21st and Friday November 22nd at 7pm and Sunday November 24th at 2pm. Tickets will be sold at the door prior to each of the performances.

TWINS= Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli was named American League Manager of the Year on Tuesday, following his first season as a big-league coach. Baldelli narrowly beat out Aaron Boone of the New York Yankees for the honor. Both received 13 first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America revealed Tuesday night, but Baldelli got more second-place votes in his first year on the job. He is the youngest to win the award.
COL FB= Gophers move up to #8 in the College Football playoff rankings yesterday, LSU #1 and Ohio State #2. University of Minnesota's Tanner Morgan and Antoine Winfield Jr. have been named Big 10 players of the Week for their efforts in the Gophers win Saturday over Penn State. Winfield was also named the nations defensive player of the week. The Gophers will travel to Iowa on Saturday at 3pm on AM960 KLTF.
