--The Minnesota DNR says archery hunters had a strong harvest at a deer hunting event at Camp Ripley last month. Nearly 2,000 hunters harvested 273 deer during the three day event near Little Falls from October 29th-31st. The event was changed from a single day to a three-day event due to the anticipated lower harvest numbers. With a robust deer herd at Camp Ripley, hunters still experienced about 14% success, well above the long-term average of 9% for the hunt. The DNR says the largest deer recorded was an 11-point buck shot by Anthony Swenson of Waconia. Last year, 1,846 hunters harvest 310 deer over two, two-day hunts.

--Minnesota 8th Congressional District Representative Pete Stauber will be in Little Falls on Monday at 2pm delivering books from the Library of Congress to Morrison County United Way to be used in local library collections. This is part of the Library of Congress Surplus Books Program that is available to eligible non-profits who apply for the program. With guidance from Congressman Stauber’s office, MCUW felt the program fit well with their focus on literacy. This is the second delivery this year. The first delivery in July consisted of nearly 90 books and workbooks including items for children and a wide variety selection of fiction and non-fiction for adults. The first round of books was distributed to Great River Regional Library, area little library boxes, Pioneer Elementary library in Pierz and the Franciscan Sister’s library. Congressman Stauber’s office requested and selected the books to be given to MCUW and took a very active role in this opportunity. MCUW is working with Coborn’s of Little Falls and the Little Falls Great River Regional Library location to provide free coffee and cookies for the first 35 attendees which will take place at the Little Falls Carnegie Library on Monday, November 22nd at 2:00 p.m. For more information about MCUW, visit www.unitedwayofmc.org or follow them on Facebook.
