NEWS
--Around 4:50pm on Saturday a Morrison County Sheriffs Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 371 north of Little Falls. The deputy observed a traffic violation and made the traffic stop on 36-year old Nicholas Loch of Watkins. A Morrison County K-9 team responded to the traffic stop, conducted a drug sniff which indicated the presence of illegal narcotics. During a search of the vehicle, approximately 51 grams of methamphetamine was located and seized. In a press release, Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen stated “A deputy utilized his drug interdiction training and along with the assistance of a K-9 team, hundreds of dollars worth of illegal narcotics were taken off the streets. Drug trafficking continues to be an issue in rural Minnesota, including in our community and we will continue to stay aggressive with enforcement efforts.” Loch is facing charges for 1st degree possession of a controlled substance.

--Two drivers were injured Monday morning around 6:45am on Highway 210 near Pillager in Cass County. 30-year old Kyle Borchert of Long Prairie was eastbound, over corrected after striking the shoulder of the road, crossed the center line and collided with 46-year old David Stumvoll of Pillager head on. Both drivers were treated at the Brainerd hospital. The Minnesota State Patrol stated that Borchert is facing impaired driving charges.

--A 59-year-old man died Sunday in a house fire in Ronneby, according to a news release from Foley Fire Chief Mark Pappenfus. The Foley Fire Department was dispatched at 6:10pm Sunday to 14280 78th Street Northeast in Ronneby, which is about 3 miles east of Foley. Arriving crews were told a man had jumped out of a second story window due to smoke and that another person might still be in the house. Foley firefighters found the body of a 59-year-old male while extinguishing the fire. The cause of the fire and name of the man who died have not been released. The state fire marshal has been contacted to investigate with the assistance of the Benton County Sheriff's Department and the Foley Fire Department.

--A 25-year old man was arrested Friday on suspicion of robbing a man at a St. Cloud bus stop in mid-September. Travis Jon Parton is charged with aiding and abetting aggravated robbery in the first degree. There were two men suspected of cooperating in the robbery, according to court documents. 23-year old Andrew Robert Lind-Behrends is also named as a suspect in the September 13th robbery in court documents. When Parton was spotted by an officer in Benton County on Friday, he attempted to run away and was uncooperative during the arrest. Parton was found to be in possession of methamphetamine as well. Parton made his first court appearance on Monday morning. His next hearing is November 2nd.

--The Semi-Annual Retiree Seminar will be held on Thursday, October 18th at the Camp Ripley Hanger. Coffee is on at 8:30, breakfast at 9am, meeting starts at 9:30. --The Heartland Symphony Orchestra starts their 42nd season with Opera Around the World this weekend with shows Saturday at 7:30pm at Charles D. Martin Auditorium and Sunday 2:30pm at Tornstrom Auditorium in Brainerd. Tickets can be purchased at the door of either event, all students K-12 are admitted for free.

--The Platte River Trail is closed through Thursday due to the disabled deer hunt being conducted.

--The Brainerd Police Department is asking for the public's help with any information leading to a possible suspect who allegedly attempted to abduct a girl on Friday, October 5th in northeast Brainerd. The police department was called at 4:09 p.m. after 12- and 13-year old girls reported an unknown man attempted to abduct one of them as they were walking in an alleyway in the area of the 500 block of First and Second avenues in northeast Brainerd. The girls stated the man spoke with them a few times and then physically tried to grab one of them. The girls were able to get away and the man fled. The suspect is described as a white man in his 20's with brown hair and a slender build. He is 5 feet, 8 inches tall and was driving a red, four-door car. Police are looking for tips from anyone who may have noticed something out of the ordinary in this area at that time. The Brainerd Police Department does not believe the public has need to be alarmed, but should continue to practice good safety routines with young children. General safety practices includes children should not talk to strangers; younger children should be accompanied by an adult; parents of older children, who are more independent, should know where their children are and when they are expected home.

--A St. Cloud man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of having a role in the Martin Marietta granite quarry fire in 2015. 47-year old Raymond James Curtis is a former Martin Marietta employee and was booked into Stearns County Jail on suspicion of first and second degree arson. Waite Park police and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division have been investigating the fire since it happened April 12th, 2015. The fire caused several million dollars in damage. Nobody was injured during the incident, but evidence indicated the fire was intentional.

--A 27-year old Sartell woman is facing charges for reportedly hitting a man with a baseball bat on Saturday. Kylie Mae Nieskens was charged with one felony count of second-degree assault, one felony count of making terroristic threats and two misdemeanor counts of domestic assault in Stearns County District Court.
