More details will be coming soon on the exact time and other information on the Thanksgiving Meal returning to Little Falls next month.

--A crime spree was stopped quickly in Waite Park Friday. The Waite Park Police received a report of a burglary in progress at 10:11pm in the 200 block of 11th Ave. North. The homeowner says a man dressed in all black had pushed in the screen door and was inside his porch. The homeowner hit the intruder in the head with a gun, and the intruder ran. While responding to that call, Stearns County Dispatch received a call from the Kwik Trip that a man fitting that description was asked to leave the store. Shortly after, officials received another call of a burglary in progress in the 100 block of 11th Avenue North. The caller said they found a man in the living room, and it appears the intruder got into the home by breaking glass in the door. The homeowner had captured the intruder and identified him as 20-year-old Dylan Okoth of St. Cloud by taking his wallet. Okoth was taken to the Stearns County Jail and charged with 2 counts of felony 1st-degree burglary, 1 count of misdemeanor 4th-degree criminal damage to property, and 1 count of misdemeanor possession of a false driver's license.

--The Cass County Sheriff’s Office will once again be searching the area where Peter Achermann went missing in 2009.The 82 year old Achermann was last seen in the Staples and Motley area on July 24, 2009. His vehicle was located the following day on a minimum maintenance road in Becker Township in Cass County. According to the news release, Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk said since the disappearance 14 years ago, numerous tips have been received and leads followed up but nothing significant to the ongoing investigation was revealed. Initial investigators assigned to this case retired or moved on, both at the county and state level, and reassignments to the case have been made. During this time, the landscape and terrain of the area that Achermann’s vehicle was located in has changed,” Welk said. “The ongoing drought has provided an opportunity to search dried ditches and lowlands that were once filled with water, and timber harvesting has been done on neighboring parcels, with some parcels changing ownership.” Revisiting the initial search area will give those investigators an opportunity to learn about and orient themselves with the area of the search, done over months following Achermann’s disappearance. Welk said while nothing significant was recently learned about the case, the public will see officials and a number of agencies searching in the area this fall as the foliage changes. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office is not requesting any additional assistance from the public while searching and revisiting the area over the next month. Any information regarding Achermann’s disappearance may be directed to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 218-547-1424 or to Crimestoppers website.

--A Minnesota horticulture teacher set a world record in California on Monday for the heaviest pumpkin after growing a giant jack-o'-lantern gourd weighing 2,749 pounds. Travis Gienger of Anoka won the 50th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California, with an enormous, lumpy, orange pumpkin that could produce at least 687 pies. The previous world record for heaviest pumpkin was set by a grower in Italy who produced a 2,702-pound squash in 2021, according to Guinness World Records. Gienger grows his gourds in the pumpkin patch in his backyard. He said this year he decided to give his plants extra care, watering them up to 12 times a day and feeding and fertilizing them a bit more than usual. Gienger has many ties to Morrison County as his grandparents and others still live in the Ft. Ripley and Little Falls area. Gienger, a landscape and horticulture teacher at Anoka Technical College, has been growing pumpkins since he was a teenager, inspired by his father who also grew them. He first competed in Half Moon Bay's annual weigh-off in 2020 and has won three of the city's last four giant pumpkin contests.
