NEWS
--At 6:30pm Monday the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man shooting at the stop sign located at the intersection of 160th Avenue and Iris Road, approximately two miles south of Little Falls, in Little Falls Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a male party was witnessed standing in front of his vehicle shooting a black pistol at the stop sign on 160th Avenue and Iris Road. The male party then got into a black four-door SUV and started traveling westbound on Iris Road towards Highway 10. According to the witness, there was dust on the back of the window, and it appeared there were three digits written in the dust, possibly “172”. The suspect was described as a white male in his mid-40’s approximately 5’10” to 6’ tall wearing black sunglasses. The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in this matter. --A boy that was taken to the hospital after being accidentally shot by his uncle during a hunting trip has died. The Cass County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened on Sunday just before 8:30am in rural Motley. Deputies arrived to learn that a family from St. Paul was in the area on public land hunting squirrels. The 12-year-old boy was accidentally shot by a 47-year-old man. The boy was taken to a Twin Cities area hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. Cass County was informed by the hospital on Tuesday morning that the boy had died. The incident remains under investigation.

--A Foley man is facing 57 felony charges for selling cars without a license. The Minnesota Department of Revenue has charged Grady Shearer of Foley with 53 counts of felony failure to pay sales tax and 4 counts of felony failure to file income tax returns. Officials say Shearer allegedly sold motor vehicles, outdoor recreational equipment, and other items through Facebook between 2018 and 2021 without collecting sales tax and without a motor vehicle dealer’s license. The complaint claims Shearer owes more than $222,000 in unpaid sales tax, income tax, penalties, and interest. Each charge carries a maximum fine of $10,000, 5 years in prison, or both.

--Two people were injured Monday after a truck hit a driveway approach on County Highway 3 in Crow Wing County. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at 11:49am near Merrifield. According to the report, a GMC truck was southbound on the highway when it crossed into the northbound lane, hit a driveway approach near the intersection with Bonnie Road and went airborne, landing in trees. The driver of the GMC, a 67-year-old Crosslake man, was transported to the hospital via ambulance. The passenger in the pickup, a 69-year-old Crosslake woman, was transported to the hospital via helicopter. The sheriff’s office reported the driver may have suffered a medical emergency, but the crash remains under investigation. The identities of those involved in the crash were withheld Monday. No other information was available.

--The Benton County Sheriff's Office Dispatch is sending out a reminder, especially for those with children at home. Make sure everyone in your household knows the home address in case of emergency. It seems like such a small thing but recently a medical situation happened and time could have been lost if the younger individual did not know the home address. Have the address for younger children on the fridge or someone watching the kids in the home in case of emergency as this could help in saving a life by saving time in case of a fire or where sheriff's deputies or other emergency personnel need to arrive to help as soon as possible.

--A pumpkin grown here in Minnesota has set a new record. Monday at the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California they announced two-time winner Travis Gienger of Anoka is this year's Pumpkin King. His 2,560-pound Rhinoceros-sized Mega Gourd set a new North American Record on its way to taking first place. Gienger drove the gargantuan gourd for 35 hours to see his hard work pay off at the 49th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco. Gienger, who also won the same contest in Northern California in 2020, broke a record set last week in New York where a grower raised a massive pumpkin weighing 2,554 pounds. A grower in Italy holds the world record for the heaviest pumpkin. He grew a 2,702-pound squash in 2021, according to Guinness World Records.

--Minnesota has another million-dollar lottery winner. The Minnesota State Lottery says there was a winning $1 million ticket in our state for Monday night's drawing. The ticket was sold at the Holiday Station Store in Duluth. Because now in the lottery guidelines, winners don't have to reveal themselves anymore in the state, so because of that, the name of the winner was not released.

--Actress Angela Lansbury has died at age 96. She starred as Jessica Fletcher on TV's Murder She Wrote and appeared in numbers of movies including being the voice of Mrs. Potts for Walt Disney's classic film Beauty and the Beast.

COL FB= The Gopher football team has put a very tough opponent on its future schedule. The University of Minnesota has added Alabama to its schedule with games to be played in 2032 and 2033. This weekend the Gophers are at Illinois on Saturday.
