NEWS
--In order to do trail maintenance, the Soo Line Trail will have intermittent closures between Blanchard Dam and the Stearns County Line the week of October 9th (next week). Anyone with questions cal call Morrison County Public Works at 320-632-0121.

--A St. Cloud man charged with trying to burn down his group home has pleaded guilty. Twenty-nine-year-old Dylan Peterson pleaded guilty to attempted arson and will be sentenced on December 14th. St. Cloud Police were dispatched to the home in January 2022 and arrived to find the living room filled with smoke, a discharged fire extinguisher, and fire damage on the kitchen stove. Police spoke with Peterson who admitted to lighting a fire on the stove in an attempt to burn the house down. Court records show Peterson told officers he lit the fire due to his depression. Police say he acknowledged that he knew other people were inside the home and would have been burned if he was successful. A damage estimate was not listed.

--A Holdingford man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for sexually abusing two young girls. Fifty-one-year-old Eugene Loehrer pleaded guilty just ahead of his criminal sexual conduct trial. Loehrer abused the girls for years, starting when they were as young as the 5th grade. He pleaded guilty to two counts of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct with victims under 16, including multiple acts over time. One of the girls said Loehrer smoked cocaine with her in November of 2020 and since then began giving her marijuana in exchange for sexual favors. The girl said the abuse was both physical and emotional. A second girl also told authorities about sexual abuse at the hands of Loehrer. The girls said Loehrer told them not to tell anyone or he would get into trouble. After prison, Loehrer will be on probation for 99 years.

--The Brainerd Police Department reported that the suspect in the story yesterday has been arrested. Shortly before 7:30pm Monday, the Brainerd Police Department announced the arrest of a burglary suspect who Sunday had broken into a south Brainerd home. No further information on the arrest was made available. "I would like to thank the community for their assistance," Brainerd Police Chief John Davis said in a Facebook post following the suspect's arrest.

--A 25-year-old Brainerd man was injured Sunday, Oct. 1, after his motorcycle struck a vehicle at Dellwood Drive and Woida Road in Baxter. The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash reported at 7:35pm. According to the crash report, a 2010 Honda CBR600 motorcycle was westbound on Woida Road when it struck the driver-side door of a 2002 Buick Rendezvous traveling the same direction. The driver of the motorcycle, James Edward Engen, suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center. The driver of the Buick, Joyce Christine Alt, 66, of Pillager, suffered no injuries.

--The next Veterans Retiree Seminar for Military Benefits update with information on Veterans Administration, MNNG Retirement Services, Id Cards, Benefits and other items is on October 19th from 8-11:30am at the Camp Ripley Hangar Conference Center. The event is free for retired veterans and spouses, there is an optional breakfast. For more information: 320-632-0290. --Today is the National Emergency Alert Test that will be going out this afternoon at 1:20pm on radio signals, television stations and cell phone users will all receive a notice of the National Emergency Alert test, again this is only a test to prepare if ever a national emergency.

--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday at approximately 2:40pm, their office received a report of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 133rd Street and 160th Avenue, approximately one mile southeast of Little Falls in Little Falls Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Jean Marstein of Holdingford was traveling north on 160th Avenue and 50-year-old Brian Yetzer of Little Falls was traveling west on 133rd Street. Yetzer’s vehicle failed to yield at the intersection and the two vehicles collided. Marstein was transported to St. Gabriel’s Hospital by Mayo Clinic Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Yetzer was was reportedly not injured in the accident according to sheriff's office.

--A rural St. Joseph home was destroyed in an early morning fire. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says the call came in at about 3:15am Tuesday for a large fire in a residential area. The fire location was 8942 Ivy Road in St. Joseph Township. Deputies found a fully engulfed house. They evacuated the neighboring houses. The property owner, 31-year-old Trent Henkel, was not home. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.

NATIONAL NEWS
--In a historic vote on Tuesday the U.S. House of Representatives voted to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on a vote of 216-210. All DFL party members and 8 Republicans voted to oust the speaker.
The House will have to vote in a replacement Speaker, for now a Speaker Pro Temp has been appointed in the U.S. House.

MLB= Royce Lewis homers twice as the Twins beat Toronto yesterday 3-1 to win their first playoff game since 2004. Twins and Toronto will play game 2 at Target Field today at 2:30pm with pregame on Q92 WYRQ. Game 3 if necessary will be on Thursday time is to be determined right now depending on how many games are still played Thursday. Other winners on Tuesday was Texas, Arizona and Philadelphia in Game 1's all Game 2's today and if necessary all game 3's are on Thursday. Division Games Saturday.
NFL= Jet's Quarterback Aaron Rodgers reportedly is attacking rehab on his torn Achilles tendon and he told reporters yesterday he thinks he can return later this season for the Jets in the NFL.
