NEWS
--Due to the new software system being changed, the Department of Motor Vehicles will not be handling any services related to driver's licenses this Friday. The office will be switching to the Fast Enterprises FastDS-VS software system and start the new system for licenses on Monday, October 1st at 8:00am.

--Much of the state received enough rainfall to delay harvest progress during the past week. Field activities for the week included harvesting corn, soybeans, dry edible beans, potatoes and sugarbeets. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 72 percent adequate and 21 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 10 percent short, 66 percent adequate and 21 percent surplus. Ninety-six percent of the corn has reached the dent stage or beyond, 3 days ahead of the five-year average. Corn mature was at 66 percent, 9 days ahead of average. Corn for silage harvest was 85 percent complete, 11 days ahead of average. Reports were received of corn being harvested for grain. Corn crop condition was rated 78 percent good to excellent. Ninety-seven percent of the soybean crop was turning color or beyond with 82 percent dropping leaves, both one week ahead of average. Fifteen percent of the soybean crop was harvested, 4 days ahead of average. Soybean condition was rated 73 percent good to excellent. Eighty-two percent of dry edible beans have been harvested, ten days ahead of average. Sunflower condition improved to 73 percent good to excellent. Potato harvest was 69 percent complete, six days ahead of average. Sugarbeet harvest was 11 percent complete, eight days ahead of average. Sugarbeet condition was rated 75 percent good to excellent. Pasture conditions were rated 53 percent good to excellent.

--A 51-year old rural Brainerd man faces criminal charges for allegedly attacking a man with a baseball bat or crowbar and stealing his bicycle. Lance L. Rubink was charged with three felonies—first-degree aggravated robbery, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault to cause substantial bodily harm and gross misdemeanor theft. The judge set bail at $10,000 with conditions to include he must stay a reasonable distance away from the victim's residence, cannot leave the state and make all court appearances. Rubink has his next court appearance October 1st.

--The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources confirmed reports of zebra mussels in Big Pine Lake, just northwest of Mille Lacs Lake in Aitkin County. The DNR confirmed zebra mussels at a location where a resident had first spotted them. No zebra mussels were found during searches of the nearest public access and near an island on the lake. Zebra mussels can compete with native species for food and habitat, cut the feet of swimmers, reduce the performance of boat motors, and cause damage to water intake pipes.

--There will be a fundraising effort for flood relief in southern India this Friday at St. James Church in Randall. Father Jimmy Joseph the Pastor for Randall, Flensburg and Sobieski is from the region that has been ravaged by monsoon flooding killing over 450 people. The event Friday consists of cocktails and then three dishes from Father Jimmy's Indian heritage. There will also be dessert. There is no charge for the meal, however a silent auction and donation boxes will be used to help those suffering in Father Jimmy's homeland from the flooding. --The Todd County Sheriff's Office has released information relating to a fatal ATV accident last week Wednesday. Authorities were called to 21438 County #36 in Long Prairie. Upon arrival at the scene 54-year old Glenn Joseph Middendorf was treated and taken to the Long Prairie Hospital. Glenn was on the ATV while he and his son attempted to heard a cow into the cow yard on the farm from the pasture. The ATV overturned, with Glenn being injured. Glenn Middendorf was pronounced deceased at the Long Prairie Hospital.

--A Waite Park woman has pleaded guilty to attacking a man with a knife last month. 25-year old Constance Grandidier pleaded guilty to one felony count of 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon. She will be sentenced November 5th. According to the charges filed in Stearns County District Court, Grandidier started yelling at the man when he began looking at her phone. She then went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and began trying to cut him. Court records indicate Grandidier and the victim are family or household members.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
--81-year old Bill Cosby of the Cosby Show fame and others was sentenced to at least 3 years of a 10 year sentence for a sexual assault where he drugged a woman in 2004. Cosby also now has to register as a predatory sex offender for the rest of his life.

SPORTS
TWINS= Tigers win 4-2 last night over Twins. Twins did have a happy moment with a Joe Mauer single in the 1st inning. He passed Harmon Killebrew for the most times on base as a Twin which now stands at 3,075 total in his career. The Twins and Detroit play game 2 tonight 6:30pm on Q92 WYRQ.
NFL= Struggling with his mental health for weeks, Minnesota Vikings star defensive end Everson Griffen was banned from practice days before a widely reported incident at a Minneapolis hotel last weekend. Hospitalized over the weekend, Griffen will be away from the team for the foreseeable future. Griffen was withheld from Sunday's 27-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills because of a knee injury, and did not attend the game for personal reasons, the team said. It's unclear whether he remains hospitalized but he will not be available for Thursday night's game against the Rams in Los Angeles.
