The U.S. produced 48.520 billion pounds of red meat in 2015, up 2% from 2014. There were fewer slaughter facilities operating, but record pork production, with a bigger annual slaughter cancelling out a slightly lighter live weight, helped offset lower beef, veal, and lamb production. The USDA says Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas accounted for 49% of U.S. commercial red meat production in 2015, unchanged from 2014.
