The 87th Minnesota FFA Convention’s first general session took place on Monday Morning at the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities Campus. FFA Members, advisors, and guests were greeted by Dr. Frances Homans, the head of the applied economics department at the University of Minnesota-College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Science, and Ms. Donna Moenning from the Center for Food Integrity. Ms. Moenning then encouraged FFA members to think about what it means to be a progressive agriculturalist. The theme of this year’s convention is “Together We”.  State Treasurer, Travis Troendle delivered his retiring address entitled “Build Yourself. Build Together. Build Others.” Travis informed the attendees what it means to build on your strengths so that you can be the best you that you can be. During the first session, three FFA chapters began their official membership in the Minnesota State FFA Association when they were recognized as chartering chapters.  Chartering their membership were the Fisher, Deer River, and Breckenridge FFA chapters. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.  Minnesota students who have taken three or more classes in career and technical education, including agricultural education have a graduation rate of 98.7%
