The incoming president of the National Corn Growers Association remains hopeful the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement will be passed this year. Wesley Spurlock of Texas says while it’s hard to ignore the anti-trade rhetoric of the presidential campaign, NCGA believes a deal could get done following the election. “See what the lame-duck session brings and see if it’s possible to bring something through at that point.  As we get past this election and find out what people are really thinking and try to work it then.” Creating more demand for corn will be a focal point as Spurlock succeeds Chip Bowling as NCGA president in October. He says TPP would help on multiple levels. “We’re still confident to try to get that in because trade is awfully good for our national economy.” Brownfield spoke to Spurlock at the Farm Progress Show in central Iowa last week.
