--At 7:31pm on Saturday the Morrison County Sheriff's Office received a report of a one vehicle accident with injuries on 147th Avenue just north of 243rd Street, approximately eight miles north of Little Falls, in Ripley Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 60-year old Jan Ouren of Little Falls was turning north onto 147th Avenue from 243rd Street when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer. Ouren’s vehicle went off the road and struck a tree causing the airbags to deploy. Ouren was transported to St. Cloud Hospital by Life Link III with a large laceration to her head.
--At 6:08pm Friday the Morrison County Sheriff's Office received a report of an ATV accident with injuries at a residence on Quest Road, approximately two miles east of Harding, in Pulaski Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 31-year old Danielle Skwira of Pierz was backing an ATV out of a shed on their property. The throttle stuck causing the ATV to hit a barrier and it rolled on its side. Danielle and her 3-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported by private vehicle to Onamia Hospital.
--The Morrison County Sheriff's Office wants to remind residents of a program their office provides, which is Project Lifesaver. Project Lifesaver is a 501 (C) community based public safety, non-profit organization. The program provides law enforcement and other caregivers with equipment and training to quickly locate and rescue individuals with cognitive disorders who are prone to life threatening behavior. Project Lifesaver can benefit people with Alzheimer’s disease, Autism, Down syndrome, Dementia and people who are susceptible to wandering. --The National Weather Service says central and southern Minnesota should be prepared for an extremely wet week. Already 1 to 1.7 inches of rain fell in parts of the county Monday and another 2-3 inches could fall before Friday morning. An area southeast of St. Cloud toward the Twin Cities Metro could be 4+ to near 5 inches of rain by the end of the week causing massive flooding issues.
--Morrison County Public Works maintenance crews will be doing shoulder work on CSAH 1 north of Randall. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Maintenance crews will continue to mow roadside ditches. Public works will be patching potholes around the county as weather permits. Please use caution around work crews. Public Works Contractor will be spray patching County Roads 277 and 275 near Harding. Please use caution around work crews as loose material may be present in driving lanes.
--Marnita Van Hoecke of the Pine Grove Zoo spoke on KLTF Monday and wants to give back and thank all of our hometown heroes this with free admission to the Pine Grove Zoo. The Pine Grove Zoo is offering free admission to our community's heroes from September now through Sunday as a way of saying "thank you." Those who qualify for free admission include police officers, firefighters, EMTs, county sheriff officers, state troopers, and active or retired members of the military. Professional credentials and photo IDs must be present to take advantage of this offer. Marnita spoke about a tragedy that occurred to her six years ago and they were all there is great support to her and others who are in need and this is give back a little bit to our community heroes for all they do. --A Faribault man was hurt in a single-car rollover on Highway 10 near Rice Monday morning. The Minnesota State Patrol says the 20-year-old driver, Dylan Midas of St. Cloud, was traveling eastbound on Highway 10 around 7am when the crash happened. Troopers say Midas was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control, entered the ditch and rolled. A passenger in the car, 39-year-old Jason Power of Faribault, was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Midas was not hurt.
--Another Republican has announced they will be running for Congress in the 7th District. Dr. Noel Collis lives in Albany, and is a practicing gastroenterologist in Hutchinson. Dr. Collis also owns the Collis C-Store in Lake Crystal. Dr. Collis has also guest hosted several Up Front programs in recent years. He ran for the 7th District seat in 1992. He also served as Chairman of the Republican Party Health Care Task Force, and worked as a campaign operative for former Minnesota 2nd District Congressman Tom Hagedorn in the 1970s. Paynesville Republican Michelle Fischbach announced she is running for the 7th District last week. Congressman Colin Peterson has served in Congress for the last 30 years.
--With autumn on the way, you may be thinking about pruning your trees and shrubs as part of your fall cleanup chores. But, U-of-M Extension Educator Katie Drewitz says typically that isn't a good idea. She says if you are pruning trees this time of year, you're not giving them much time to heal those wounds before winter. Drewitz says it's best to prune your trees in February or March. As for shrubs, Drewitz says those are little more complicated depending on what you have in your yard.
