NEWS
–The Little Falls City Council has voted to cease permitting displays at city parks after queries about the policy on such displays led City Attorney Toni Wetzel to advise against them. A local citizen inquired about applying for a display in a city park in November after noting the Lindbergh Lions were permitted to put up annual holiday decorations in Le Bourget Park. The city previously permitted decorations by the Lindbergh Lions to be displayed in Le Bourget Park from November 15th until February 1st, 2016. The council’s immediate decision was to work with the local citizen since the request was made before any decision by the council. However moving forward the city will stop taking any further requests after noon on December 31st. All displays will be required to be removed by February 1st. The decision applies only to city parks and not locally owned property. The city in search of an agreeable uniform policy plans to continue examining the issue, but needed a policy while that process takes place. Recent court decisions have made it clear to attorneys that cities do not have the power to regulate content of signage, however they can create rules such as size and number allowable.
