NEWS
–The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Legislative Update on Monday, February 29th from 9:30-11am at the Little Falls City Hall Council Chambers. State Representative Ron Kresha and State Senator Paul Gazelka will be on hand to preview the 2016 Minnesota Legislative Session and issues that will be addressed.

–Interstate 94 was reduced to one lane near Rogers through the midday after a semi-truck left the westbound roadway and crashed Wednesday killing the driver. MnDOT traffic cameras indicate the truck left the interstate on a curve and careened into the woods, eventually starting on fire. Flames and smoke could be seen leaping from the cab. The driver reportedly was killed in the crash but may have had a medical emergency before the impact. The right two lanes of westbound I-94 were shut down until 1:00pm as tow trucks and ambulances respond to the scene. The backups were significant lasting for miles along the Interstate for hours to clear the scene.

–A 36-year-old Brainerd man faces six felony charges for drugs and firearms in three separate incidents. Michael Cox was charged in Crow Wing County on charges from incidents that occurred on January 13th and January 28th which include second degree assault, making terroristic threats, felon in possession of a firearm, following a January 13th incident where Cox allegedly threatened his mother at a residence in Northeast Brainerd. On January 28th a traffic stop in Brainerd found that Cox who was a passenger in the vehicle had broken a glass on the floor, which was found to be a small cylindrical object resembling explosive fireworks. A search of the vehicle found a baggie of residue which tested for meth, a pipe used to smoke narcotics and many other items used in the consumption of methamphetamine and other drugs. Cox was charged for possesion crimes along with other crimes from the previous incident. Bond was set at $15,000. His next court appreance is scheduled for Tuesday.

–A Brainerd man arrested on shoplifting now faces a number of drug charges after having methamphetamine on him at the time of his arrest. 25-year-old Jesse Born of Brainerd was arrested last month for shoplifting at a grocery store in Brainerd. An investigation and search of Born found items of paraphernalia, small pills, a pill bottle in a female’s name and the bottle tested positive for meth. Born was charged in Crow Wing County court with possesion of a controlled substance and theft charges, the judge set bond at $50,000.

–The Minnesota State High School League One-Act competition is today and Friday at The O’Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. High school students from Brainerd and Little Falls last week competed in Region 8AA, but did not qualify for state. Little Falls Community High School took second place with their one-act play “The Amish Project,” and Brainerd took sixth place with their one-act play “Booby Trap.” Alexandria High School won regionals and advanced to state competition.

–The Sartell-St. Stephen school board has given final approval to a request to put a question to voters in May that would raise $105.8 million to build a new high school and renovate other district buildings. The vote would happen on May 24th. The $105.8 million would cover work in the first phase. The new high school would be built near Oak Ridge Elementary, where the district owns some of the land needed for the new school. The current high school would become the district’s middle school.

–Monday is President’s Day a federal holiday. Due to the holiday on Monday the Little Falls City Council will hold their next regular council meeting on Tuesday at 7:30pm at city hall in Little Falls.

–On Wednesday the Central MN Violent Offender Task Force assisted the US Marshal’s Office in locating an individual wanted in connection to a murder in Chicago. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Kevin Mason.  Mason had a warrant for his arrest for 1st degree murder and a parole violation for being a felon in possession of a firearm out of Illinois. Mason was located in Waite Park and taken into custody without incident and transported to the Stearns County Jail on the outstanding warrant. Mason is awaiting the extradition process. During the search for Mason, officers also arrested two others on active warrents , 34-year-old  Shawanna Vaughn of Waite Park and a juvenile. Both were transpoted to the Stearns County Jail.

NATIONAL NEWS
–Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders were the winners Tuesday in the New Hampshire Primary. Next up is Nevada and South Carolina who hold primaries February 20th and 27th before Super Tuesday takes place with over a dozen caucuses and primaries on March 1st. On Wednesday Republican’s Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina announced they were ending their campaigns for U.S. President.

WRE= join Little Falls Radio for section Wrestling playoffs Friday and Saturday, Friday night Pierz will try and advance to the state tournament hear the action on FM94 KFML then on Saturday afternoon Little Falls will have their sections and try to advance to state hear that action Saturday on Q92 WYRQ with Al Windsperger.
BHK= The Little Falls Boys Hockey team will open the playoffs Tuesday night at home against Fergus Falls in the 4 vs 5 matchup in Section 6A boys hockey playoffs. Tuesday 7pm live on Q92 WYRQ. The top seeds #1 St. Cloud Apollo, #2 Cathedral and #3 Sartell will have to wait and see who wins play in games on Saturday for their Tuesday opponents with winners of Tuesday’s matches playing on Saturday the 20th with the Section Finals on February 25th.
