NEWS
–The 2016 Morrison County Dairy Princesses were crowned Saturday evening in Little Falls. Taylre Stumpf, Nicole Meyer and Amy Zehowski were crowned as the 2016 Morrison County Dairy Princesses. Zehowski was also named Ms. Congeniality. They will now move on to the May Event in mid May where they will compete to become 12 finalists for Princess Kay of the Milky Way who will be crowned the night before the opening of the Minnesota State Fair in late August.

–A Burtrum man was seriously injured Saturday morning when his vehicle rolled several times, according to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office. 35-year-old Daniel Johnson was driving north on Morrison Line Road when he lost control around 12:15am and rolled. Johnson was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries the Sheriff’s Office considered serious.

–Open burning restrictions will begin Monday for Morrison, Stearns, Benton, Sherburne and Wright counties. The Department of Natural Resources states that spring open burning restrictions prohibit residents from burning brush or yard waste. Restrictions typically begin about two weeks after the snow melts, and remain in place until the summer green-up occurs. Mild temperatures and sparse snow cover this winter resulted in an early snow melt. According to the DNR, most wildfires in Minnesota occur during April and May, and more than 95 percent are caused by people.

–An Isle man was charged with criminal vehicular homicide in Mille Lacs County. The report states that 33-year-old William Sayers Jr. was charged with four counts of criminal vehicular homicide and two gross misdemeanor charges with DWI in the death of Tanya Skinaway. Skinaway’s body was discovered March 2nd near the south shoulder of Chiminsing Drive near Isle. Authorities said the grill of a vehicle was near the body and later identified to be that of Sayer’s vehicle. Sayer was intoxicated when interviewed later that night by police. He stated he was with Skinaway that night and told authorities he does not remember the accident but knows he was the only one driving the vehicle in question.

–Two people were injured in a one vehicle rollover in Morrison County Friday. Around 8:20am 26-year old Abdirashid Dool of Pelican Rapids was travelling north on Highway 10 near Aster Road as the vehicle spun out, went into the median and rolled before coming to a stop on its wheels. A passenger, 55-year old Lenard Nason of Detroit Lakes suffered serious injuries while the driver Dool suffered what the State Patrol deemed as non life threatening injuries.

–In the fire on Tuesday at an apartment complex on Oak Street in Brainerd, police have reason to believe the blaze was caused by materials involved in an attempt to make methamphetamine. On Friday police located and apprehended one of the apartment occupants and suspect 30-year old Dustin Dobson. He was taken to Crow Wing County Jail where he awaits formal charges from the Crow Wing County Attorney’s Office. Crow Wing County Health Department will be monitoring the cleanup process.

–Minnesota health officials say the number of children dying from flu-related complications is rising. Three young patients have died after contracting the flu this season. Minnesota Department of Health says fewer people have gotten sick with the flu compared to the past few years. Those who have gotten sick can experience severe complications, especially children. Health officials say there have been 843 flu hospitalizations so far this season compared to more than 4,100 for all of last season.

–A 26-year-old from Royalton was injured Friday around 7:45pm on Highway 15 and the Highway 10 split in Benton County. Benjamin Presler was northbound on Highway 15 when he hit an icy spot on the bridge and left the roadway and rolled. Presler had non life threatening injuries according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

–Two people were injured, one seriously in a one vehicle accident on I-94 in Stearns County Friday around 8:45pm. 41-year-old Angela Tschida of Belgrade was on I-94 when she witnessed a crash in front of them and over corrected rolling the vehicle. Tschida had non-life threatening injuries while her passenger, 38-year-old Christopher Tschida of Belgrade sustained serious injuries in the accident.

–Six people were hospitalized after a three-vehicle collision on the Sauk River bridge Friday night. Authorities said 17-year-old Autumn Saxon of St. Joseph was driving west on Stearns County Road 75 around 9:20pm when she went into a spin on the bridge, crossed the median, struck another vehicle, continued to spin and then struck a 3rd vehicle. Saxon’s vehicle rolled onto its side and she was ejected landing in the ditch on the west end of the bridge. The five occupants of third vehicle were trapped in the vehicle. According to the Sheriff’s Office the driver Jeffrey Bursch of Foley his wife Tracy, 33-year-old Christopher Hoppe of Waite Park and two children ages 15 and 14 months were all extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital to be checked out. Saxon sustained injuries that required her to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The Sheriff’s Office said the road was temporarily shut down. The county Highway Department salted and sanded the bridge.

–The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reported a fire in front of Lincoln Gas and Bait in Cushing on March 13th. The fire in front of the store was started apparently by a lit cigarrette and was able to be extinguished without it reaching the building.

–The Little Falls City Council meets tonight at 7:30 at the city hall council chamber. Special work session begins at 6:30pm.

–Pierz will hold a band concert-district event tonight at the Pierz High School at the PAC stage in Pierz at 7pm. The Little Falls High School welcomes a brass ensemble to town Tuesday and they will put on a free concert Tuesday night at 7pm at the auditorium in Little Falls.
