State of Water Conference held in Alexandria

University of Minnesota Extension and partners explored water resource issues during the second State of Water Conference April 14-15 at the Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria. The State of Water Conference provided education to over 260 community members, state agency officials, soil and water conservation district staff to help protect the lakes and rivers that make Minnesota so unique. Conference attendees attended in-depth half-day workshops, selected from over 40 presenters and 24 session topics, heard the latest news about water issues from agency leaders, and visited with exhibitors. Featured speakers were Ron Schara of Minnesota Bound; MPCA Commissioner John Linc Stine; DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr; BWSR Executive Director John Jaschke; and Gov. Mark Dayton. The conference was hosted by Conservation Minnesota, University of Minnesota Extension and Freshwater Society, and sponsored by Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Gov. Dayton declared the week of April 18 Water Action Week in Minnesota. Extension continues to bring Minnesota the information, tools, connections and resources needed to build local capacity and define next steps to improve the health of water in Minnesota communities.
