NEWS
--On Wednesday, September 7th an EF1 tornado touched down in Morrison County and damaged areas including Camp Ripley and Green Prairie Fish Lake. A damage estimate on Camp Ripley damage alone is estimated between 15-25 million dollars. The vague estimate is due to the still unanswered questions of what can be refurbished or what would need to be completely replaced. Minnesota Power is the couterpart partner with Camp Ripley where their combined effort solar field was heavily damaged. Minnesota Power is still working on their damage estimate for their responsibility of the project.

--The motorcyclist who collided with a van Wednesday night on Stearns County Road 75 in St. Cloud died as a result of his injuries. St. Cloud police identified the motorcyclist as 20-year-old Taylor Richard Anderson of Sartell. The collision happened shortly before 7:00pm at County Road 75/Roosevelt Road and Oak Ridge Lane in south St. Cloud. Anderson died about three hours later. A witness told police a motorcyclist was driving south on Roosevelt Road and struck a minivan turning north onto Roosevelt Road from Oak Ridge Lane. The impact launched Anderson through the van's driver side rear door and out the passenger side. Witnesses told officers the motorcycle was traveling faster than 75 mph before the collision. The van driver, 71-year old Jon Maier of St. Cloud, did not appear to have any injuries.

--Brainerd officers investigating a stolen motorized wheelchair complaint ended up locking down the Washington Education Services Building Wednesday afternoon in finding a suspect. Authorities identified 38-year-old Ryan Beach at a residence and questioned about the stolen wheelchair. He fled on foot and then entered the education building which prompted the school district to enact their lockdown protocol. Officers secured the building and found Beach hiding inside. He was taken into custody on charges of receiving stolen property, fleeing a peace officer and trespassing on school grounds. No one was injured during the arrest of Beach.

--The St. Cloud school district is planning five public presentations on the upcoming referendum between September 22nd and November 1st. In the Tuesday, November 8th general election, the district will ask voters for $143.25 million to build a new Technical High School and renovate Apollo High School. Two questions will be on the ballot. One question asks voters for $104.5 million to build a new Tech; the other question asks voters for $38.75 million to renovate Apollo. The Tech question would have to pass in order for work to be done on Apollo. The referendum comes after a single-question, $167 million referendum failed last November. The scheduled presentations include: 6:00pm on Thursday, September 22nd at St. Cloud City Hall; at 7:00pm on Monday, October 3rd at Apollo High School; 7:00pm on Tuesday, October 11th at Tech High School; 10:00am on Wednesday, October 19th at Whitney Senior Center; and 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 1st in the resource center at Apollo High School. A tour will follow the presentations at Apollo High School on October 3rd and November 1st and after the presentation at Tech on October 11th.

--Roger Fregin is being inducted into the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in a ceremony Saturday. Fregin played ameteur baseball in Randall and in Flensburg. He also had a couple of coaching stints. Fregin was a member of the Little Falls High School baseball team that won a state title over Minnetonka in 1979.

--There will be an informational meeting about the Camp Ripley Veterans State Trail with Cathy VanRisseghem and Bob Reinitz at the Little Falls Senior Center next Thursday at 8:30am.

--Grace Convenant Church located on Riverwood Drive north of Little Falls will celebrate 125 years this Sunday. The church was organized by the Scandinavian Mission and the ministry of Reverend E.J. Palm in September 1891 and located on 11th Street Southwest in Little Falls. In May 1898 the church was renamed the Swedish Christian Mission Church of Little Falls, the church was incorporated in 1905, Sunday school started in 1937, and renamed Grace Covenant Church in 1959, the church moved to its current location on Riverwood in September 1966. Also during the 1950's Grace Covenant would have their services part of the Sunday morning lineup on AM960 KLTF during KLTF's early days of broadcasting which started in 1950. There will be a special service Sunday followed by potluck lunch.
