--At this time there are no confirmed cases of measles in Morrison County. However, Morrison County Public Health continues to work closely with MDH and local providers to distribute information on what to look for and to remind residents of the importance of getting vaccinated. Measles are a highly contagious disease caused by a virus. It can lead to hospitalization and in rare cases death. Measles spread through the air by coughing or sneezing. You can get measles by being in the same room as someone who has measles. Symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes, followed by a rash that typically spreads from the head to the rest of the body. A person with measles can pass it to others from four days before their rash appears to four days after it appears. If you believe you or your child may have measeles you should contact your doctor. Most people in Minnesota can’t get sick from measles because they have been vaccinated or have had measles before. One dose of measles vaccine is about 93% effective at preventing measles if exposed to the virus. Two doses are about 97% effective. If you have specific questions call Deb Gruber, Morrison County Administrator at (320) 632-0293.
