--According to the Minnesota DNR thanks to mild winters and conservative hunting regulations, Minnesota has a rebounding deer population. The Department of Natural Resources announced additional hunting opportunities available this fall, because of the population increase. The DNR reviews harvest regulations each year using a wide variety of information, including the previous year’s harvest data, winter severity, aerial survey and other information. The number of permit areas with strict limits has been reduced while some areas have been opened up to wider hunting options. The DNR is also considering a new, late anterless-only hunt to reduce deer populations in certain areas, in an effort to reduce the incidence of chronic wasting disease and risk of disease transmission. The DNR will make a decision after receiving public input.
