The board and leaders of CHI St. Gabriel’s Health and Albany Area Hospital and Medical Clinic have determined that the Albany community’s greatest ongoing health need is for outpatient primary care services. As a result, inpatient, outpatient and emergency services at Albany Area Hospital will be discontinued December 31st, 2015. CentraCare will open a medical clinic in the existing Albany Medical Clinic space which is expected to open January 1st, 2016. CCH plans to employ Albany’s family medicine providers and offer as many jobs as possible to current hospital and clinic employees. There may be additional employment opportunities for displaced staff at CHI St. Gabriel’s Health facilities in Little Falls. CentraCare Health has plans to build a new medical clinic in Albany in the future. CHI St. Gabriel’s Health leaders arrived at the decision as part of the strategic planning process to evaluate current needs, future demand and the best use of resources. Data shows that more people in the Albany area are receiving care in St. Cloud, due to the scope of services available as well as more convenient access to places of employment. With an average daily census of one patient and only four emergency department visits per day, continuing these services isn’t appropriate stewardship of limited resources. CHI St. Gabriel’s Health and CentraCare Health are working together to ensure a smooth transition for patients, providers and employees with continued focus on treating everyone involved with compassion and respect.
