Minnesota Soil Temperature Map

Monday, October 10th 2016

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) offers an online tool that helps farmers know when it’s ok to apply fall fertilizer. Best management practices for nitrogen use recommend that urea and anhydrous ammonia applied in the fall should be delayed until soil temperatures at six inches deep stabilize below 50 degrees. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture Soil Temperature Map is a cooperative effort between MDA and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
