Individuals involved in a fatal collision that killed a 54-year-old Becker man have given “conflicting statements” to investigators. Charles Maurer was killed Tuesday night when his van was struck by a pickup that ran a red light on U.S. Highway 10. The State Patrol incident report names 18-year old Devan Garlock of Little Falls as the driver of the truck that ran the red light. Three other Little Falls teenagers were in the vehicle, according to authorities: 18-year old George Saldana, 16-year old Caysi Jaronkie and 17-year old Carlee Bollig. All four occupants of the truck were injured, and authorities considered Bollig’s injuries serious. Garlock has stated to media outlets and online that he was not driving the vehicle when it broadsided Maurer’s van, but was a passenger. The State Patrol Thursday stated the people involved are giving conflicting statements, but that the preliminary investigation does indicate Garlock was driving. The State Patrol investigation into the fatal crash continues. Two of the passengers from the accident on Tuesday, 10-year-old Casey Maurer and 17-year-old Carlee Bollig remained hospitalized with serious injuries as of Thursday.
