Saying he didn’t want to be a liability to the team he rebuilt, a tearful Gophers head football coach Jerry Kill announced Wednesday morning that he is retiring immediately, citing his continued battle with epileptic seizures. While not speaking in detail, Kill confirmed in a press conference that he has suffered a number of recent seizures, including two shortly before a practice this week as the Gophers prepare for a huge matchup Saturday with Michigan. After a discussion with his wife and family he did not want to be a distraction or burden to the team and organziation. He also stated this was the hardest deicison he has had to be make. Defensive Coordinator Tracy Claeys will take over a interim head coach for the remainder of the football season. Claeys has been an assistant for Kill for many years and stood in as head-coach when Kill was unable to coach the team due to seizures in 2013 and 2014.
