A Monticello man is being held on $1 million bond after being accused of causing severe head injuries to his girlfriend’s young son. The boy, who will be two next month, is in a coma and in critical condition at Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. 21-year-old Matthew Stewart was in a Wright County courtroom Thursday on a charge of first-degree assault. Braydon Decker was rushed to the Monticello hospital Tuesday where physicians later contacted Wright County investigators when they determined the toddler had suffered severe head trauma. A criminal complaint says Stewart told investigators the child appeared to have a seizure after crying and throwing a tantrum. Court records do not list a defense attorney.
