NEWS
–Both men discovered in the Mississippi river in the past week appear to have drowned according to preliminary autopsy results. On Sunday members of the Morrison and Stearns County Water Rescue Teams recovered the body of 34 year old William Lee Blake of Little Falls from the Mississippi River. Blake’s body was located near the Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge on the north side of Little Falls. On Wednesday morning the body of 36-year old Michael Robert Arndt was recovered from the Mississippi River by the Crow Wing and Morrison County Dive Teams. Arndt’s body was also located near the Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge on the north side of Little Falls. William Lee Blake and Michael Robert Arndt were transferred to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. At this time it appears there is no sign of homicidal violence. Initial autopsy results indicate that both victims succumbed to fresh water drowning. There is no threat to the community at this time. The public is safe. The investigation is ongoing and will be pending final autopsy results. At this time the deaths of both William Blake and Michael Arndt are being investigated by the Little Falls Police Department, Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force. Anyone with information is asked to call the Little Falls Police Department at 320-616-5570.

–One person was injured Wednesday in St. Cloud after a broadside collision on Highway 10. The accident happened when 83-year-old Elmer Schreifels of St. Cloud was on Highway 10 making a turn onto 15th Avenue South when he failed to yeild to oncoming traffic and was struck by 40-year-old Michelle Smith of Monticello. Smith suffered non life threatening injuries. Schreifels had some minor injuries but refused hospitalization.

–Two people were hurt Wednesday in rear-end collision in Cold Spring. The State Patrol reported that 21-year-old Trevor Parson of Waite Park and 34-year-old Sarah Burg of Sauk Rapids collided on Highway 23 when Burg’s vehicle entered Highway 23 and was struck by the Parson vehicle. Parson and his passenger 20-year-old Eric Moses of New London were treated for non-serious injuries. The other driver, Burg, was not injured.

–A Rice man was injured Wednesday afternoon when his vehicle rolled over in Chippewa County. The State Patrol said 79-year old Raymond Uhing was driving south on Minnesota Highway 23 between Raymond and Clara City around 3:45pm when he drifted off the road, rolled over landing on its top. Uhing was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar with injuries not considered life-threatening.

–An acclaimed poet and professor will read his work on October 29th at the College of St. Benedict in Cold Spring. Paul Muldoon won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2003 and the T.S. Eliot Prize in 1994. He is an Ireland native teaching at Princeton University in New Jersey. His current works is “One Thousnad Things Worth Knowing” which was received high praise from many reviewers. The event is free and open to the public at 7pm next Thursday at St. Benedicts College.

–One person was killed another seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday morning in Sherburne County. The accident at Highway 169 and County Road 4 when 52-year-old Ruthann Heinzen of Princeton broadsided a vehicle at the intersection. Heinzen was taken to the Princeton hospital with serious injuries. The other driver in the accident died at the Princeton Hospital. That person’s name has not been released by the Minnesota State Patrol.

–Nearly two-thirds of Minnesotans (61 percent) who have two or more community features to help them be physically active – such as sidewalks, parks and trails – report exercising three or more days a week, which is significantly more than those (42 percent) who have fewer community features, according to a new poll commissioned by the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. The findings illustrate the vital role that communities can play in helping people more easily make physical activity a part of their daily lives. The poll also found 76 percent of Minnesotans agree or strongly agree that the way a community is built has an effect on how much physical activity people get, while only four percent disagree or strongly disagree. Twenty percent of those polled are uncertain.

–The Boys and Girls Club of Little Falls will be doing pumpkin carving tomorrow morning 7am-12pm. Great Rivers Arts Saturday night is hosting a Legend of Light event lip syncing, Sunday Our Lady of Lourdes has a breakfast, Staples has a bazaar Sunday and there are bingos Sunday in Upsala and Hillman- more info at fallsradio.com.

–Tonight is the Harvest Moon Ball from 7-10pm at Mary Of Lourdes Middle School in Little Falls, haunted house, hayrides. There is a $5 admission.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS
–A U.S. service member died after a commando raid Thursday freed about 70 hostages who were believed to face imminent execution by Islamic State fighters in northern Iraq according to the Pentagon. It was the first American combat death in Iraq in four years. The name of the soldier has not been released.
