NEWS
--Congratulations to Betty Devriendt of Royalton who was named runner up yesterday at the State Fair for the oustanding senior citizen of Minnesota. She finished 2nd out of around 70 participants.

--Little Falls Community Schools is excited to announce that the Flyer Track reconstruction project is complete. Everyone within our communities is invited to a Grand Re-Opening Ceremony on Saturday, September 10th. The school will have a “cut the ribbon” ceremony beginning at 9:00am, followed by an opportunity for everyone to have their inaugural walk or run on the new track. All future and former Flyer Track and Field athletes, coaches, fans, and supporters are encouraged to attend. Current Flyer coaches and athletes will be organizing a few fun events for the kids. If you have any questions on the event call the Little Falls Activities Office at (320) 616-2206.

--A Pierz third-grade teacher was one of the educators named as an Educator of Excellence by the MREA. Chris Dobis teaches in the Pierz school district and this year is also a technological integrationist. Dobis will represent the north central region. The awards honor educators who positively impact students and their achievement, show leadership in their school and community and help bring new and innovative practices in education. Dobis will be honored at an awards banquet in November in Brainerd.

--About 9:45am Thursday the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office received a call indicating that a dump truck had hit a power pole and the lines were down. Shortly after they were given more information that a nearby residence located at 8988 320th St in St. Wendel Township was on fire. When Deputies arrived they saw a power pole on top of a truck driven by 77-year old Ralph Eiynck. Eiynck was trapped inside the truck until the power was disconnected by the utility company. Deputies also saw that the residence owned by Jennifer Warnert was on fire and noticed gas leaking. Investigation shows that a dump truck driven by 65-year old Ralph Schroden had been dumping a load of soil in front of 8988 320th St and started to drive away while lowering the dump box. The dump box caught the powerlines that were across the road and caused the utility pole to break and fall onto the truck. Eiynck was transported to St.Cloud Hospital by Gold Cross ambulance. The residence is not inhabitable due to the fire.

--A St. Cloud man was seriously injured Wednesday around 4:00pm on an ATV in Stearns County. The State Patrol said that 51-year-old Bruce Held was on Highway 23 east of Bel Clare Drive in Waite Park when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by 80-year-old John Thielen of St. Cloud. Held was taken to North Memorial in the Twin Cities with serious injuries. Thielen and his passenger were not hurt in the accident.

--Police are searching for a man who robbed a St. Cloud convienence store Wednesday. Just after 8:00pm, a man entered the SuperAmerica on 33rd Avenue North and confronted the clerk with a knife. A short struggle between the two ended with the clerk getting minor injuries. The suspect was able to grab an undisclosed amount of money and flee the store. There were no customers in the store at the time. The suspect is described as a black male, mid twenties, around 5'9”, slender build with a mustache. Anyone with information on the robbery or witnesses a man leaving the store around 8:00pm should contact the St. Cloud Police Department.

--A search warrant executed by the Lakes Area Drug Investigative Division Monday resulted in the arrest of two Brainerd residents. Charged with felony possesion and sale of marijuana were 22-year old King Nathaniel Battle and 19-year old Lily Grace Stewart. Initially, the Brainerd Police Department responded to a welfare check request on West College Drive. The ensuing investigation resulted in a search of the residence where Battle and Stewart live. Inside, officers found nearly 1 pound of a substance that tested positive as marijuana, a digital scale and new and used plastic zipper bags. Also located in the residence was $7,242 in cash and several cellphones. In one of the cellphones, a text conversation showed inquiries regarding a shipment of more marijuana. Both Battle and Stewart appeared in court Wednesday and are in custody in the Crow Wing County Jail.

--Todd County is investigating money taken from an ATM machine from a bar near Long Prairie. The Todd County Sheriff’s Office says at about 3:00am on Monday the suspect broke into the restaurant/bar portion of the Midway Bar on Highway 71. They broke into the ATM machine and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious vehicles, or people, in that area are asked to call the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.

--The Minnesota State Patrol reminds motorists not to drink and drive and expect delays on Minnesota roadways this weekend with the Labor Day Holiday upon us. Extra law enforcement will be out through Monday watching for impaired and distracted drivers.

--Weekend events include the finals day of the State Fair ending Monday, Holy Cross Church Bazaar in Harding Sunday, a parade in Sobieski at noon on Sunday and many others at fallsradio.com.

CLASS C= Sobieski vs. Prior Lake Saturday 11am followed by Nisswa vs. Bemidji at 1:30pm both live on AM960 KLTF. Lastrup will take on Hadley Saturday 7:30pm on FM94 KFML. If they keeping winning they will have more games on Sunday and a title game on Monday.
