–CHI St. Gabriel’s Health and other sponsors invite you the Health Fair today from 10-6 at the Community Middle School in Little Falls. Get blood pressure checks, glucose and cholesterol screening ($10 and only 10-12), there will also be demonstrations on exercise, cooking, Alzheimer’s dementia, boxing and balance, youth substance use prevention, fishing fun and more. Q and A with doctors, and a prescription take back where you can drop off unused and expired prescription drugs free of charges, other features include a bike rodeo, prize drawings and more. Admission is free. Also listen for live broadcasts from the health fair today from 10-12 on AM960 KLTF.
–Approximately 15 Upsala firefighters responded to a house fire at 325 South Main Street in Upsala to a home owned by Greg and Becky Willenbring. The call came in about 3:00pm Thursday and firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 3 ½ hours. The home sustained damage but no damage estimate is available at this time. No one was home at the time the fire started. There were no injuries. The official cause is under investigation.
–The Little Falls Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 16601 Riverwood Drive Wednesday about 9:20am as a contractor nicked a gas line. 17 firemen were on scene for less than a half hour. No injuries. The Little Falls Fire Department also responded to an unauthorized burn Thursday about 8:35pm at the address of 14412 133rd Street. 22 firefighters were on scene to put the blaze out.
–Pine River, Backus and Pequot Lakes firefighters are responded to a large barn fire south of Pine River about 11:30am Friday. The barn is located on 34th Street Southwest, off County Road 115 just west of Highway 371.
–Three people were injured in a two vehicle accident Friday around 1:15pm on Highway 10 and 150th Avenue in Morrison County. A vehicle northbound on 10 went into the median and ended up rotating back into the southbound lanes colliding with another vehicle. 53-year-old Mark Dolbec of Motley, and 23-year-old Clay Smith of Little Falls were the drivers who were treated for non-life threatening injuries. One passenger, Adrielle Smith of Little Falls was also treated for non-serious injuries. A 4 and 2 year old in the Smith vehicle had no injuries as did a 54-year-old from Rogers who was a passenger in the Dolbec vehicle.
–Even with the rain last week, grass fires started up again on Thursday in Crow Wing County. Firefighters battled a grass fire in the Northtown area of Brainerd between McKay Road and the Northtown area. Another reported in Crosslake on 15000 block of County Road 109 both were contained with structures damaged or injuries. Brainerd firefighters also responded Wednesday night around 8:15 to a fire on Thompson Road south of Brainerd where smoke was coming from an upstairs bathroom of a residence. It appears a breaker flip caused the bathroom fan to spark and cause a fire. The fire spread into the attic where it reportedly did around $15,000 in damage. There were no injuries reported in the fire.
–A 19-year-old from Becker was injured early Saturday just after midnight on Interstate 94 in Stearns County. Samantha Hanson was on the interstate when she left the road and rolled in the median. Hanson was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
–The Little Falls City Council meets tonight 7:30pm at the Little Falls City Hall Council Chambers.
–The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Month for May is Deb Hoheisel. Hoheisel has worked as an activities aid at Little Falls Health Services for over 37 years.
–A Clear Lake man was hospitalized after a rollover crash late Thursday night, according to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said officers were sent at 11:38pm to a rollover on Stearns County Road 44 just east of Stearns County Road 7 in St. Augusta. Deputies found a vehicle on its roof in the ditch, and the vehicle had apparently traveled straight at a sharp curve, leaving the road and striking several trees, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The driver, 48-year-old James Allan Gall, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to St. Cloud Hospital. The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The incident is still being investigated.
–A 53-year-old man, who was physically uncooperative with Brainerd police officers, kicking one officer, has been charged. Albert Santos Correia of Brainerd was charged Wednesday in Crow Wing County District Court with felony fifth-degree drug possession; two gross misdemeanors counts of fourth-degree assault of a police officer and obstructing the legal process; misdemeanor disorderly conduct; and petty misdemeanor of possessing drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $20,000 without conditions for Correia, who was in custody Thursday in the Crow Wing County Jail.
–The Yellow Ribbon Network of Morrison County is in need of volunteers. Duties over the spring and summer have included moving families from one residence to another, installing handicap ramps, doing maintenance such as water heaters, lawn equipment or other appliance and other outdoor items.
