--A reminder for customers who purchased trees from Morrison Soil & Water Conservation District, the Tree Pick-Up Date has changed to Friday, May 3rd from 8am to 4pm at the Little Falls Exchange Ice Arena for those you purchased trees from Morrison Soil and Water. Also, all DNR tree customers that chose to pick up trees in Little Falls, your pick up date is Thursday, May 2nd from 8am to 2pm again if you purchased through the DNR and requested Little Falls as a pick up site. Morrison County Soil and Water did announce that they are sold out of trees to sell for this season.

--The Morrison County Sheriff's Office Sandbox fill is May 16th from 8am-4pm for anyone within a 3 mile radius from Bank Square in downtown Little Falls. This is limited to 40 residences on a first come first serve basis. Call today to reserve your spot at 320-631-2880. You must call and register by May 14th. There is no cost, only a donation is requested for the local food shelf.

--More information is being released on a man who barricaded himself in an apartment in Meire Grove, leading to a shelter-in-place order. Around 9:15 on Monday morning, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was called for a domestic disturbance in the tiny town of roughly 200 people. When deputies arrived, they asked for additional police support. Officers learned the suspect, Anthony Joseph Vankirk, was also wanted on a felony arrest warrant for second-degree arson. The arrest warrant is related to an incident in Albany in August of 2022. Deputies tried to contact Vankirk multiple times, but he didn’t respond. Around 11am,, the Stearns-Benton SWAT team was called to assist. Officials evacuated the apartment building, and nearby residents were told to shelter in place or leave the area until further notice. After several more hours without making contact with Vankirk, the SWAT team was sent in to force open his door. Deputies were able to see Vankirk, and he started to respond to commands. The 42-year-old man from Meire Grove walked out of the apartment and was placed under arrest on the domestic assault charge and the warrant.

--A Pennsylvania woman was hurt in a Stearns County crash early Sunday morning. The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened on Interstate 94 in Melrose Township at approximately 3:25am. Troopers say a compact car was westbound on I-94 when the driver, 19-year-old Briana Oster of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania lost control, entered the median, struck the median cables, and rolled. Oster was taken to Melrose Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

--The Minnesota Department of Veterans will honor those who served in Vietnam this June. A three-day commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the war is scheduled for the Mall of America from the 13th to the 15th. Temporary exhibits from the Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum will be on display. At 11am on Friday, the 14th, a ceremony will combine music, speakers, and storytelling to celebrate the heroism and sacrifice made by Marines, pilots, sailors, and soldiers in Southeast Asia. When the program is over, officials are planning a complimentary brunch for Vietnam veterans. Commissioner Brad Lindsay says, “We hope this event will provide gratitude and healing for our Veterans, our allies and their families, and provide them the opportunity to connect with other Vietnam Veterans and learn about valuable resources available to them.” For more information check out Minnesota Department of Veterans website or social media posts for the latest updates.

--Many guests yesterday on KLTF Community Program, first Sheila Watercott, Morrison County Chief Deputy Jason Worlie and Little Falls Police Chief Kyle Johnson reminded those that the Drug Take Back event is Saturday 10am-2pm at Coborn's Marketplace in Little Falls where you can drop off unused or unwanted prescription drugs free of charge and they will be disposed of properly by law enforcement, a great way to get more of that spring cleaning done. Camp Ripley gave an update on the Best Warrior competition going on this weekend, details and updates on their Facebook page. They will also be working on many items, control burns, construction, rail service and more items at the military base through July and things will get louder in the weeks ahead. Also Camilla Larsen of Little Falls Community High School wanted to give the public the news of the “Wizard of Oz” performing at the high school next week where their will be students grades 2 through 12, live animals and flying students, right now, you will need to get your tickets online through the activities office at the high school, any remaining tickets will be sold at the door May 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 7pm at Little Falls Community High School. --One person was airlifted to the hospital after a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Tuesday morning. Around 8am, a dump truck, a school bus, and a Dodge Caravan were all northbound on Highway 25 when they collided at the intersection with County Road 37 in Monticello Township. There were no students on the bus at the time. The driver of the van, which was crushed between the truck and the bus, was injured and airlifted to the Twin Cities. Neither the dump truck driver nor the school bus driver were hurt.

--The Crow Wing County Dairy Banquet took place April 13 at the Pierz Ballroom. Kaylee Woitalla was crowned Junior Dairy Princess. McKenna Thesing was selected as dairy ambassador with assistant ambassadors being Shelby Mulroy and Isabelle Smith. The congeniality award went to Kaylee Woitalla. The princess and ambassadors will be making many appearances in the community over the next year promoting the dairy industry.

NFL= The Chicago Bears have the first pick in tonight's NFL draft in Detroit. The Vikings get the #11 pick in the draft tonight.
