NEWS
--The Morrison County Commissioners met Tuesday morning. At the meeting the commissioners did adopt the authority and administrative responsibility to implement the buffer law as the local government unit within the legal boundaries of Morrison County for the water features. This provision allows a county to affirm jurisdiction to carry out the compliance provisions regarding riparian vegetated buffers and alternative water quality practices for waterbodies identified on the DNR buffer protection map.

--The Flensburg Fire Department aided the Bowlus Fire Department with a barn fire northwest of Sobieski early Wednesday. The call came in at 1:06am and firefighters responded to the Ron Krebs residence located at 11448 80th Avenue of Little Falls. A barn on site was a total loss. Also a John Deere tractor was damaged and a bobcat skid steer was considered a total loss. Firefighters were on scene until 3:30am. There were no injuries and no livestock lost.

--The 2017 Miss Brainerd and Baxter United States Pageant will be at 7:00pm Saturday at Tornstrom Auditorium in Brainerd. There will be 23 contestants competing to win nine titles in the Jr Teen, Teen, Miss, Ms Woman and Mrs Divisions.

--A Minnetonka man is accused of pointing a loaded handgun at a patron outside an Avon bar Saturday night after the patron intervened in a suspected sexual assault. 39-year old Corey James Heinen is accused of groping a woman without her consent at Lion's Den bar. The woman asked someone to help stop the assault, and a man intervened but Heinen hit him over the head with a beer bottle. Heinen is accused of then hitting the woman in the face. A second man intervened and physically removed Heinen from the bar. Heinen is accused of then grabbing a .380-caliber semi automatic handgun from his vehicle and pointing it at the face of the man who removed him from the bar. That man disarmed Heinen. Heinen fled from the bar and later was arrested at his parents' residence. Heinen is charged with two counts of second-degree assault and one count each of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct and fifth-degree assault.

--Waite Park police believe they know who tied up and assaulted a man late Monday, but they are having trouble finding the two suspects. Police were called at 10:37pm to the 100 block of 12th Avenue North and found a 57-year old man with what police described as significant injuries to his head and face. The man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital and is expected to survive. Police did not provide the names of the two suspects but they believe the assault was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the general public.

--The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls will honor Sisters Loretta Bloch, Cordelia Korkowski, Adeline Kroll, Sylvia Opatz, Marguerite Ostendorf, Carol Schmit and Clara Stang who will celebrate 60 years as Franciscan Sisters Sunday, June 25. A Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at St. Francis Convent, followed by a dinner and reception for invited guests. The sisters entered the novitiate at St. Francis Convent, July 31, 1957, and made their final profession of vows on August 12, 1962. Sister Bloch is orginially from the Albany area, Sister Korkowski was born in Millerville, Sister Kroll is a native from Royalton, Sister Opatz was born on her family's farm near Bowlus, Sister Ostendorf was born in St. Francis south of Upsala, Sister Schmit was born in Medina but started teaching in Little Falls and Sister Stang was born in St. Martin in Stearns County.

--A 9-year-old boy with special needs has been found in a marsh after wandering away from a camp in Eden Prairie. Police say the search for the boy Tuesday was difficult because of the tall reeds, cattails and water and muck. A Minnesota State Patrol helicopter was launched and the child was spotted from the air. The boy was found sitting in the middle of a clearing on top of a bed of reeds or a beaver dam. Authorities say it took up to 25 minutes to bring the child out of the marsh. He was checked by paramedics and returned to Camp Eden Wood.

--Andrew Dikken cannot withdraw his guilty pleas to murder in the 2013 shooting deaths of Kara Monson and Chris Panitzke, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled. In a ruling released Wednesday, the state's high court affirmed an earlier decision by the district court that denied Dikken's request to withdraw his guilty plea. Dikken is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole after having pleaded guilty in 2014 to first-degree, premeditated murder in the death of Monson and first-degree murder while committing a burglary in the death of Panitzke. Dikken is currently incarcerated at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Rush City.

--The Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport commission June 14th awarded two low bids for upcoming construction projects at the airport. One project helps clear the way for a planned construction of a new general aviation terminal building, while the other makes sure pavement at the airport stays up to par.

--A fundraiser for Linden Hill entitled “An Evening in Black and White” will be held tonight from 5:00-9:00pm at Linden Hill in Little Falls. For information call (320) 616-5580.
