NEWS
–The Little Falls Fire Department responded to a pair of incidents on Tuesday. The first incident was a gas leak around 3:20pm at 406 2nd Street SE at the Allen Bordeson residence. The homeowner was digging for a firepit and struck a gas line. 15-Little Falls firefighters responded and evacuated four houses in the vacinity and contained the leak within 10 minutes. Gas companies continue to urge homeowners to call before you dig to avoid any accidents. Then around 8:57pm the Little Falls Fire Department responded to an alarm at the Little Falls High School. A motor on a machine that makes keys in the maintenance room overheated and set off the alarm. The machine was not in use at the time. It was unplugged and taken outside. No further damage. No injuries in either incident.

–Around 5:10pm on Tuesday the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motorcycle accident with injuries at the intersection of Greyhound Road and 165th Street, north of Little Falls. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the motorcycle, 53-year old Mary Venske of Randall was traveling north on Greyhound Road. A semi, driven by 31-year old Erik Peterson of Lakeville proceeded east through the intersection crossing over Greyhound Road. In an attempt to avoid a collision with the semi, Venske tipped her motorcycle and skidded on the roadway causing her severe injuries. She was transported to CHI St. Gabriel’s Hospital and later to St. Cloud Hospital by ambulance. The specifics of Venske’s injuries are unknown at this time.

–On Tuesday investigators with the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force received information on the location of a person wanted on several felony warrants who was staying in the Pierz area. Investigators began watching a residence and a short time later observed a motorcycle leave the house. Investigators believed the wanted party was operating the motorcycle and requested Morrison County Sheriff Office deputies stop it. Upon the motorcycle stopping, the operator fled the scene on foot and entered into a nearby garage in an effort to hide. Investigators and deputies located the subject and placed him under arrest. The party was not the person with warrants. However, 31-year old Keith Robert Boser of Pierz was taken into custody for no motorcycle endorsement and driving after revocation. While conducting Boser’s arrest, a second vehicle was seen leaving the residence and was stopped by Morrison County deputies and investigators with the task force. During this second traffic stop the party with the warrants 35-year old Robert Bartheld of Zimmerman was in the passenger seat. Bartheld was taken into custody and booked for his warrants which included receiving stolen property and 3rd degree burglary. The driver of the vehicle, 33-year old Daniel Robert Miller of Otsego was arrested after a search of his vehicle turned up 7 grams of methamphetamine, a .22 caliber handgun, digital scales, and approximately $3,000 cash. Miller was booked for 5th degree possession of a controlled substance.

–The driver of a semi that rear-ended a minivan taxi in March on U.S. Highway 10, killing the driver and a passenger, told investigators after the crash that he “may have dozed off” right before the crash. The St. Cloud City Attorney’s Office charged 61-year old Delbert Cockram of Owatonna with careless driving and reckless driving. The charges came after the Benton County Attorney’s Office declined to charge Cockram with any felonies, citing insufficient evidence of gross negligence. Cockram was driving south on Highway 10 when he rear ended a taxi minivan March 18th that was stopped for a red light at East St. Germain Street. The crash killed 66-year old Thomas Findlay of Sartell and 22-year old Emily Letourneau of Big Lake. Cockram wasn’t injured, and investigators have said that alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash. The State Patrol said there was no indication that Cockram took any actions in the moments before the crash to avoid hitting the taxi.
