NEWS

–A body recovered Wednesday morning from the Mississippi River by the Morrison County and Crow Wing County Dive Teams is that of a second man who went missing in Little Falls last week. 36-year-old Michael Robert Arndt was located near the Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge on the north side of Little Falls. The body will be transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office pending an autopsy. At this time the deaths of both William Robert Blake and Michael Robert Arndt are being investigated by the Little Falls Police Department, Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Central MN Violent Offender Task Force. –Funeral services have been set for the deputy killed Sunday at St. Cloud Hospital. A funeral for Steven Sandberg of Aitkin will be Friday at 11:00am at Aitkin High School. Sandberg was investigating 50-year-old Danny Hammond who was able to get Sandberg’s gun and shot and killed him Sunday morning. Hammond died later that day after being tased by a hospital security guard and succumbing to what the hospital called a medical emergency.

–The Morrison County Sherriffs Office and the Little Falls Police Department will be participating in a training exercise with CHI St. Gabriel’s Hospital from 7:00am-12:00pm today. The public should not be concerned with the excess law enforcement expected to be present during this time span due to the training exercise at the hospital. This is only a training exercise.

–Motorists traveling west on U.S. Interstate 94 came to a stop Tuesday afternoon after a series of crashes. The first crash was a rollover that took place shortly after 1:00pm. There were no injuries, but emergency response was called to the scene. Not long after the first crash, the Department of Transportation reported a second crash had happened in the same area. A vehicle re-ended a fire truck that was already on scene from the first accident. The State Patrol said the fire truck had all its lights activated when it was hit. The driver of the car 24-year old Leah Blood of Albany, and the driver of the fire truck, 26-year old Lucas Blonigen of Melrose, were both injured. Both injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. A third crash in the same area occurred around 3pm, there were no injuries.

–Motorists on Highway 210/Washington Street in Brainerd will experience delays at the bridge spanning the Mississippi River when it is reduced a single lane beginning today at 8:30am. The work will be done on weekdays 8:30am-2:30pm until the end of the month as crews do routine maintenance and repairs to the bridge.

–A 14-year-old boy was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in St. Paul Tuesday, after he collapsed during gym class at Rush City High School. Chisago County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the school around 1:30pm for a teen who was unresponsive. The student apparently collapsed while outside in gym class and when paramedics arrived, school staff was performing CPR. The boy had to be shocked with a defilbbulator three times and then airlifted by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in St. Paul.

–FM94’s Ladies Night Out is today starting at noon in Little Falls. –A 26-year-old Thief River Falls man was arrested Monday after a foot chase through the Crosby golf course. Crow Wing County stated that around 7:20am a vehicle was in the ditch near Deerwood. A deputy found that the vehicle was stolen. A male was spotted nearby. When asked to stop the man ran into the golf course. The man was later apprehended and taken into custody. Charges are pending against the man with the Crow Wing County Attorney’s office.

–Investigators searching for 19-year-old Laura Schwendemann of Pope County stated Tuesday that it is believed she did not left voluntarily in a vehicle at a gas station on October 14th. They are seeking information still on her whereabouts and searching for a 1997 black Geo Prism with a loud exhaust seen at the gas station at the same time that Laura left the station. Investigators stated there is no threat to public safety. For the families well-being they asked for someone who may have seen Schwendemann to call the Douglas or Pope County sheriff.

NATIONAL NEWS
–Vice President Joe Biden announced he will not run for president in 2016. There was a lot of speculation that Biden would challenge DFL frontrunner Hillary Clinton for the nomination.
