NEWS
--The date for the annual Day of Caring Community Service event has been postponed one week to Wednesday, May 9th. The project has reached full capacity on the number of homeowners they are able to help so any project request coming in will be put on a waiting list in case they have cancellations or additional adult volunteer teams. The Day of Caring involves teams of Little Falls Community High School students and area volunteers who assist homeowners with outdoor spring projects like raking, washing windows and more. Again the new date for the Day of Caring is Wednesday, May 9th.

--The DFL party did not endorse a candidate for the US 8th District House seat. The seat is currently held by Rick Nolan who earlier this year announced he will not be seeking reelection. Their convention in Duluth was Saturday. Five candidates were seeking the nomination including Leah Phifer, Joe Radinovich, Kirstin Kennedy, Michele Lee and Jason Metsa. The DFL party will now await the results of a primary on Tuesday, August 14th before the party endorses a candidate. The Republican party has already endorsed Pete Stauber in the US 8th District House race.

--Last week the Little Falls Police Department responded to three possible burglary related calls in Little Falls. The first incident was reported on Sunday, April 8th as a homeowner on 8th street SE reported to police it appeared his service door on his garage had been kicked but not broken into. On Wednesday police responded to another potential burglary. Upon arrival the complainant indicated sometime over the past month someone entered the warehouse building on the southwest side of Little Falls through a vent access on the south side of the building. The building was used to store school fund raiser items. The only item they could see missing was a battery powered peddle bicycle with an estimated value of $500. Then another burglary was reported on Thursday in the area of 3rd Avenue and 4th Street SW in Little Falls. Because that is an open case no other details were released. Authorities continue to urge the public to lock up your valuables and report any and all suspicious activity.

--Several area high school students were among the 44 students from Region Five honored by the National Joint Powers Alliance at its 27th annual Student Recognition Banquet last Wednesday in Brainerd. The annual event celebrates area students as rising stars. Each was selected by his or her respective school staff, with the criteria they are "unsung heroes" of their district, the behind-the-scenes students with little, if any, recognition. Among those honored were Andrew DeYonge, Little Falls; Asia Mohamed, Little Falls; Samantha Winscher, Pierz-Healy; Zaida Nieken, Pierz-Healy; Jordan Hines, Pillager; Sabrina Otto, Pillager; Alyssa Vanderhoof, Staples-Motley. Others schools recognized were Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Crosby Ironton, Pine River Backus and Walker Hackensack Akeley. Each student honored also received a scholarship worth a varying amount from a local business or organization.

--A 24-year old man was injured in a two-vehicle crash before 10:00pm Saturday on Highway 210, one mile east of Deerwood. The State Patrol reported 24-year old Cooper Blau of Chisholm was west on Highway 210 when he lost control and crossed the centerline, where he was struck broadside by 76-year old William P. Quiel of Aitkin. Blau was transported to Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby for non-life-threatening injuries. Quiel was not injured.

--An 8-year old boy at Pleasantview Elementary School in Sauk Rapids came to school with a kitchen knife about 7:15am Monday and randomly attacked fellow students. Three students ages 8, 9 and 13 were cut in the incident. The children had "superficial wounds to be stitched up" and nobody else was seriously injured. Two children were taken to the hospital by their parents, where they were treated and released. The suspect was taken into custody by Sauk Rapids police, interviewed and has since been released to his parents. Interim Superintendent Bruce Watkins said the "second-grade student entered the building, put his backpack away and pulled out a knife and struck three students." Watkins said the incident lasted approximately five minutes before the student was stopped.

--Todd County Sheriff's Deputies received a call from 38-year old Jennifer Harlow of rural Osakis. Jennifer was reporting a hit and run accident that occurred at the Little Sauk Legion on County 50 in Little Sauk Township after 7:00pm Friday night. Harlow stated that her vehicle was struck and there was moderate damage to the vehicle. The suspect failed to report the incident and fled the scene. The incident is under investigation. --The Wadena fire and police departments responded to a building fire on Monday around 8:50am off of Highway 10. The building was occupied by TJ's Detailing, Jefferson Bus Lines Office and U-Haul. It was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and the building was a complete loss. It is believed a propane heater malfunctioned inside the building which exploded and caused the fire. No one was inside the building at the time. Two firefighters had to be treated for minor injuries. The fire is still officially under investigation.

--The Governor' Fishing Opener on Green Lake in Spicer may be in jeopardy. As of yesterday there was still 29 inches of ice on the lake. The fishing opener is scheduled for May 12th.

TWINS= Twins in San Juan, Puerto Rico tonight against the Cleveland Indians, pregame 5:30pm on Q92 WYRQ. The Twins have also announced the make up dates for last weekends games against Chicago. Doubleheaders with the White Sox will be held on June 5th and September 28th. There is also a makeup game on August 20th.
WILD= Wild host Winnipeg in Game 4 of playoffs tonight.
